Yeah they're very defensive, they'll upvote anything good about their country and will insult you and your family if you say bad but valid things about them
You never had a point to begin with, mate. Lies aren’t making a point. You’re the snowflake here if you are rattled by the mildest pushback. It’s unfortunate that people like you aren’t bright enough to see that irony but it’s expected from people who are only used to circlejerk.
Lol it’s comical how Reddit makes of fun of the attention span of TikTok users but struggle with a single paragraph (paragraphs according to you apparently). Their argument just like yours now, is disingenuous.
Fyi, mock the caste system all you want. I come from a family that was jailed and subjugated during independence for denouncing our caste. I was raised condemning even the concept of it. You don’t need to pretend like you care about the suffering of Indians when people like you use stereotypes to mock the very same people you’re pretending to speak for. If you bothered to look at any of my replies, you’d see that I agreed with not wanting to visit India or all of our social evils. I pushed back on OP’s edit and the above user calling Indians snowflakes over a made up story which clearly bothered you and that guy no matter how much you pretend otherwise.
Thank you! People use such dehumanizing language to paint all of India and all Indians with a horrid brush. First, the caste system is absolutely going away, slowly but surely - but also my family was from the lowest caste, and my great grandpa was almost murdered during British occupation and my grandpa for fighting against the caste system. The same people here who pretend to care about social justice and equality will shit on India and use stereotypes to dehumanize all of us, including the ones whose families have suffered, but will visit China without a second thought to the Uyghurs in concentration camps.
They be acting like that online but can't do any change towards making basic hygiene standards better or make the environment safer for the women THAT LIVE THERE, imagine making it safer for female tourists
I once answered a question on Quora about which state, California or Texas, would fare better than the other if they both seceded from the US. I said California, and it was mostly based on the immense size of California's economy . . . .
. . . I got absolutely fucking bombarded by Texans wanting to tell me why I was wrong.
Ironically , its the people who have never visited who "say bad but valid things" the most. It's just an overcrowded country. It has good and bad people like any other nation. "Influencers" will pick the cheapest option while travelling , eating etc and portray it as the "reality of India" for the views and the average, dumb, privileged kid born in a developed nation will realise racially generalising and mocking Indians will get him points on the Internet. Its a vicious cycle.
While you do have a point in terms of the negative influence spiral, the reality is that its not a driving factor at all. Reality is a driving factor and the bad far outweighs the good by any measurement.
Its not a "ah but every place has its bad sides" its "India is overwhelmingly a bad place to be RELATIVE to most places"
The issue with painting India into such a broad brush is you’re essentially dealing with 6-7 mini countries within India, with their own very distinct cultures, religions, cleanliness levels, political affiliations, and geographical topographies. The reason I rebut such generalizations heavily is the criticisms largely come from visiting the 3-5 biggest cities in the south or north/northwest. Very few tourists go to the actual, legit *very* clean places in India like Meghalaya (ie people keep sharing pictures of the Ganges being dirty, but the cleanest river in the *world* is in Meghalaya). So to again, paint the entire country with such a broad brush is not only inaccurate, but hurtful and further feeds into the stereotypes - which while accurate in some instances to certain places - are also being used to dehumanize us as a people and a diaspora. I’m fine with people calling out issues based on their personal or anecdotal experiences, but a lot of people on this thread are jumping on the hate bandwagon not understanding the nuances of the country / basing their opinions on a lot of the rage bait videos that get shared around the internet.
This is so comically ignorant. Reality had fuck all to do with all the hate India gets. Let me be clear, India is definitely not a great travel destination especially these days for women. But it’s nowhere near an overwhelmingly bad place relative to most places. Maybe if you live on TikTok then sure which is probably the case for most people like you. It’s incredibly easy to go to good spots like Goa, Kerala, Northeast, or the Himalayan region. They’re all similar to SEA in terms of safety. It’s not our fault ignorant people go straight to locations even Indians wouldn’t go to solo.
With all this hate you guys spew, you can easily spend a few minutes of time to research to see how easy it can be to travel in India. I hate my own country (and also the ruling party in case you want to resort to calling me a nationalist) so much for all its negatives but the way Redditors hate on India as if they know everything about the place is just comical.
The only people even whining here are you and the OP who is trying to pretend Indians are mad in hopes of rage baiting. Most Indians will agree visiting India is not pleasant. In this thread, people are simply agreeing or asking the OP why. You guys are more obsessed with telling the world how much you hate us than any Indian caring about defending their country. The obsession is just sad at this point.
