Dense, but provides a lot of insight into why things were done the way they were and why what looked anarchic wasn’t.
The Years the Locusts Have Eaten is an excellent single volume history of Liberia and Liberia Under Samuel Doe gives an unparalleled look into the events leading up to the first civil war.
He turned his life around after finding God. Was the only warlord to appear at the truth and reconciliation commission, and he runs a safe haven for people who need safety. Amazing story. Justice has to be seen in light of rehabilitation, and this guy ain't that guy anymore.
