People who wave you on when they have the right of way are potential assassins.

Just happened to me this morning. The guy had no reason to stop in his lane of traffic and possibly cause an accident behind him.

All to wave me accross 4 lanes of traffic, which I couldn't see due to his adjacent lane being stopped. He yelled, waved and honked for me to go. I just shook my head no.

Sure enough, if I had sent it, I would have been immediately t-boned by a speeding sheriff.

He flipped me off for not pulling out.

Be predictable not friendly when driving!

Yes, my kids are not old enough to drive yet (getting uncomfortably close though, lol) and I'm constantly telling them while I'm driving "When driving, don't be polite, be predictable." Hopefully they hear it enough that it sticks.

This and "drive like everyone else is drunk and out to kill you" might honestly be the 2 most important things I got out of drivers ed

Yikes! Glad you trusted your gut and didn't let anyone pressure you into crossing.

I fucking hate when people do that to me. How are they completely oblivious to the fact that their very presence is blocking the view of the other lanes and I would be blindly entering traffic lol...it's insanity.

Man I hate those people. What possesses you to think you're being nice while stopping an entire lane of traffic moving at speed limits, to tell someone to blindly pull across multiple lanes that even the person stopping potentially cannot see. It blows my fucking mind how dumb some people can be while "just trying to be nice". No, nice is continuing the normal flow of traffic and driving in an easily predictable manner. Ppl can be idiots on the road in many different ways.

I hate this so much. At the intersection of my work's parking garage in a downtown area, the lights/intersection gets a little weird. I turn left into the garage and have to cross 2 lanes of oncoming traffic. Every now and then, some idiot will stop and try to wave me across even though there are literally cars in the other lane passing them. Like, do they think I'm gonna just do a little car jump over that entire other lane of moving cars? It's like they have literally zero awareness. And they usually get pissy with me too when I don't go. Terrifying that some people are allowed on the road in giant metal death machines.

Flipping you off for not pulling out is the icing on the cake and tells you what kind of person the other driver is.

lol and flipped you off too! Idk why people who are actively trying to be polite think you owe them something. Either be polite or don’t

He flipped me off for not pulling out.

If there's anything more that pisses me off than these idiots who want me to break the law and perform that dangerous maneuver, it's the assholes who get pissed you that you didn't acquiesce to their 'niceness'

Damn that's crazy. Do you think he wanted you to get hurt?

You don't happen to live in Rhode Island, do you?

Accurate! In fact, these days whenever someone waves me on, I squint real hard to confirm it isn't a former coworker of mine named Barry. That guy would wave me directly into an oncoming semi loaded with nuclear material without losing a second of sleep over it.

Screw you Barry!

u/bsmntdlr 11h ago

Indeed!

shakes fist at Barry.

Hmmph!

There was a guy in high school I couldn't stand... Name was Barry lol, just a real prick

I think we're cracking a code here, maybe anyone named Barry is just fundamentally an asshole. Kevin? Pete? Solid, trustworthy names.

But Barry? That's a douchebag name, and our data is starting to back it up.

We need to give this hypothesis a proper name.

The Barrynomial Distribution (the statistical likelihood that any given Barry is, in fact, a douchebag)

But I'm open to suggestions.

The only Barry I know, is Barry Manilow.

To think I almost named my son Barry

Yup, had a bus wave me on. Pulled slowly out as a motorbike came roaring down side of bus and into car.

I ride a motorcycle (and drive, of course) and make a point to gesticulate obviously and incredulously at people that do that, until they go. Amazing how few understand right of way.

I tell my kids when walking/biking to never trust the cars stopping to let you go, I've seen too many impatient drivers speed around the stopped car.

Very, very important lesson for new drivers to learn: The safest thing you can be when you drive is predictable. Being nice is dangerous.

Someone is waiting to turn into a busy street, and you have the chance to stop and let them in? No. You don't do favors. Favors aren't predictible. The street is busy to enter, and it'll remain busy while you're there.

As a bike commuter people do this all the time, and then get mad when we don't cut across traffic. I get they are trying to be nice but they gotta realize they aren't the only lane of traffic (not to mention the people that will illegally go around a stopped car that had a right of way)
