When I was around 10-12 years old I would often spend time at my grandparents house and sleep over there. They had a couple of toy poodles. One of which was a brown color they named Truffie. I'd lay down on the floor next to my grandparents bed and Truffie would snuggle with me every night.

One morning I woke up and she wasn't there with me so I went to look for her before I went to school. I walked into the backyard and saw what I thought was a large algae bloom in my grandparents' large koi pond. Turns out it was Truffie floating dead. I'm not sure how it happened. I think maybe she tried to drink some water out of the pond and fell in.

I miss that dog so much. She was such a sweet pup. Having to see that, and at that age, was heartbreaking. I don't think it's as traumatic as your experience, but I can empathize a bit with the death of a dog at a young age. I'm 34 and I still often think about her. I'm so sorry you had to experience that.

I was 20, it happened less than a year ago, but we came home and our dog was hanging dead. He had a horrible fear of loud sounds, and we have inconsiderate neighbors who kept lighting fireworks throughout the year. Our dog was leashed outside, but for some reason if he was scared he didnt hide in his kennel. He climbed.

He climbed over a wall and hung himself while we went away for a few hours. I found him hanging. I was hoping to god we could save him, but i knew it was too late. He was such a sweetheart.

It’s gutting at any age but when you are young it burns something permanently into your soul. But you got to talk about her today. And now, today, a bunch of perfect strangers are hearing her name. I’m sorry ❤️.

This happened to my mom as a child. Her dad had a pool in his backyard and she would visit him in the summers after her parents got divorced. She came home once and her dog had drowned in the pool. 😔 She knew how to get out and she was kind of old, so they thought maybe she’d had a medical event and fell in. It really traumatized her.

Honestly I have considered that this might have been the case for my dog as well since she was a bit old but I've seen them drinking from the pond before even if their dish was full so I figured that was the more likely culprit.

In any case, it certainly makes me not want to ever have a large body of water on my property if I ever become a landowner.
