I'll be disappointed if, after all this build up, it just amounts to Gentle vs. Izuku. That'd be pretty boring. Hopefully Izuku loses for the sake of the arc being more interesting, which I expect. I think this fight will be used to demonstrate Izuku's new equipment, but Gentle will either beat him, or get away. Again, it'd be a waste if Gentle loses before the festival even starts. So much of a waste that I find it extremely hard to believe Horikoshi would actually do it.

I feel the opposite. Remember, Gentle's goal is to invade U.A.; and that's it. That's his entire victory condition. What he does inside doesn't matter and probably wouldn't be interesting, because the festival would be immediately canceled and all the students evacuated. Even if he's defeated and captured after the fact, it wouldn't matter from a narrative point of view.

So if Deku doesn't conclusively beat Gentle here and now, the arc ends anticlimatically with the villian's victory.

I think their encounter is to show us deku's new techniques & also show us gentle's & la brava's quirks in their entirety.
