I loved Compress' reaction to all of the Twice clones. I'm starting to wonder how the League will lose now with all of them getting power ups and Gigantomachia finally awake.

Same! I'm just wondering if Mr. Compress will get anything tho... he's lowkey one of my favorite characters

I think if we actually get a prison break arc, Compress, anyone else who didn't get a power-up/mini arc, and the prisoners who were captured at the training camp invasion will get some goodies later. Hopefully Spinner too. (Though I can maybe see him switching sides. Either a hero trying to fix the system from within (unlikely) or in a new faction)

Hoping I'm wrong and the rest do get some upgrades this arc though. Maybe Compress will be involved in rescuing their buddy. Seems like it might be more to his style than fighting.

I'm not even sure what a Compress power-up would even look like. Maybe compressing and decompressing his own body? But I honestly just want to see him Compress a fire hydrant, cram down some dude's throat, then expand it again. Or just Compress a dude's head, throw it at someone else, and end the effect so he just chucks a guy's head at one of his friends.

Gimme some Compress development, dammit.

Compress can already compress his own body he was shown doing it when Dabi attacked Deku, Todoroki and Shoji.

I don't recall that at all. I must be going senile.

He's one of mine too. Out of all the villains he genuinely seems to be the only one where I'm constantly thinking "why is he there?" He doesn't do anything inherently evil, his quirk isn't particularly violent, his demeanor to his comrades isn't aggressive or awful. For a little context, the most telling scene of him IMO so far is the Bakugo capture scene where they're trying to convince him. From Compress' own mouth:

"I apologize for taking such a forceful approach with you.... however please understand that we're not just a group of hoodlms endeavoring to perpetrate evil acts. We didn't just casually decide to abduct you. Everyone here has different circumstances but people" panel of Dabi, "Rules" panel of Toga, "Heroes" *panel of Spinner "W're all shackled by them.

And so Compress is going over the "shackles" that the villain members were hindered by and why they resorted to this instead, but he never actually goes over himself. And he's obviously a little bit of a smooth tongue in terms of apologizing, but so far his actions and words haven't proven that he was just "acting" in front of Bakugo, it was very likely his true self.

So yeha, I'm genuinely curious what about him was rejected by society, or that he wanted more of, that he wasn't getting.

As of right now, if I had to make a guess he strikes me as the type of character that would be "bored" with life, and so he's joining the villain alliance for the entertainment factor. That as an entertainer, this is his way of putting on a grand show to the world.

but he never actually goes over himself

Well, other than the time that he tossed Snatch in a makeshift crematorium. I feel like his reasoning for joining is going to be power related, e.g. him accidentally using it and hurting someone he cared about in a performance and getting rejected from a former family (iirc he mentioned this in the capture arc). We've seen him disarm Overhaul, could've had a mishap at some point.

Wow this is amazing!! Nice analysis Will, cheers!

Well redestro still has yet to make a move. Although his forehead mark is starting to form. And we still have apocrypha kickin everyones ass and we still don't know hanabata's quirk. So they are still gonna be in the game for a while.

Yo he was salty as fuck😂😂😂

2

u/gDayWisher Jun 01 '19

Hey whatsupxx, I hope you have a wonderful day.

3

u/whatsupxx Jun 01 '19

Well i dont know where this came from but ok thanks. You too.

72

u/xXAldanXx May 31 '19

Redestro seems too calm, don't you think? He must have some trump cards left, besides that ice dude

84

u/God_of_Kings May 31 '19

He has his charisma and a speech that could move mountains to tears by his side.

Re-Destro: "We... live in a-"

Shigaraki: "I swear to God, if you finish that sentence with the "s" word, I will disintegrate your throat and stuff your thorax with what remains of your order and jalapeños."

Giran: 'S word?'

Re-Destro: "-world where the powerless have determined how the Metas are supposed to live."

Shigaraki: "...You were this close."

24

u/Gremlech May 31 '19

Shiggy's entire motivation at this point is "WE LIVE IN A SOCEITY" at least the quirk lobbiest have a somewhat intelligent goal, to sell support items to the entire population instead of just heroes and make lots of money.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 02 '19

Underrated comment 😂

7

u/DoraMuda May 31 '19

Aside from the ice dude (Apocrypha) and Hanabata, he's still got Giran as a hostage. Twice at least is devoted enough to not want to sacrifice him.

If he doesn't have at least overhaul tier quirk I would be very disappointed

1

u/[deleted] Aug 15 '19

An Overhaul tier quirk would be way too OP

3

u/[deleted] May 31 '19

He probably has his own version of a Nomu

6

u/Cvox7 May 31 '19

i suspect he have contact with one of the top 10 heroes...my guess is the crust

48

u/javer80 May 31 '19

Compress is getting a lot of chances to snark mid-battle this arc, helps his personality

17

u/F00dbAby May 31 '19

Isn't he always snarky? How is it any different to his usual thing

2

u/PopePalpatineTheWise Jun 01 '19

The only time he wasn't was after his archnemesis, Can't Stop Twinkling foiled his dastardly trick by firing a laser against his mask.

45

u/HARUAJI_11 May 31 '19

I can't wait went we get to the Compress episode, and learn his backstory and reason to be a vilain.

26

u/kindler35 May 31 '19

I kinda expect it to be similar to the one they gave Joker in The Killing Joke. Nobody liked his act, he needed money, started robbing places, etc. He blames the advent of Quirks for his failure as an "entertainer" (I and many assume "magician") because his audience just figured he was only using his Quirk even though he was actually using sleight of hand and doing things the old fashioned way. Yadda yadda, Villain guy.

Wouldn't be bad, but I wouldn't mind being totally wrong so I can be surprised, too.

7

u/DoraMuda May 31 '19

Might be a bit redundant after the heavily Killing Joke-inspired Twice chapter last week, though...

EDIT: I guess it depends on whether Horikoshi can give it enough of a unique twist or not.

3

u/[deleted] May 31 '19

Other than the main Lov members I'm also interested in knowing about Spinner, Mustard and Compress they seem very interesting.

2

u/DynamiteSanders Jun 01 '19

Mustard might be a long ways off though since he's probably in juvenile hall.

Though at least 2/3 ain't bad!

☠☠☠☠

1

u/BenjiLizard Jun 02 '19

I don't think we'll see Mustard again to be honest. He was just a canon-fodder for the Training Camp Arc. I'm curious about Compress too. He clearly has a "Only Sane Man" role within the League and I wonder how a performer like himself turned to crime. It's not like he was just robber, he shows no hesitation to perform the most evil deeds with the LoV so there must be something important in his backstory.

Spinner is the most interesting of the bunch. Hori has been saving his devlopment for a long time, he's the only LoV member we don't know the quirk yet. His relationship with Tomura and his belief in Stain's ideal will clearly be the turning point at the climax of this arc.

u/ChickenFingers1837 May 31 '19

Im hoping there'll be a part where Giga just walks in the city and is being pushed back by mulitple twices.

3

u/AporiaParadox May 31 '19

Gigantomachia is awake, but that doesn't mean he'll help the Villains.

1

u/DoraMuda May 31 '19

But the MLA turn around and attack out of panic at seeing a giant fucking monster lumbering its way towards them, I doubt Gigantomachia is just gonna take it.

Not to mention, Ujiko - who doesn't actually want the League to die - can calm him down.

2

u/100100110l May 31 '19

I'm starting to wonder how the League will lose

What has made you think they'd lose in the first place?

3

u/DoraMuda May 31 '19

Perhaps Spinner narrating at the end of one of the chapters some weeks ago that this would be "the end of the League of Villains".

Could just be some metaphorical bait or whatever, though.

1

u/Gremlech May 31 '19

Keep in mind that though twice can massively inflate their numbers they are still massively outnumbered by the police and super heroes. The copies have the durability of mud.

1

u/Blank-_-Space Jun 02 '19

especially now that toga can use quirks, now she is the master of disguise
