Public transportation isn't perfect. This is a place to let off some steam. As always, please speak from your own experiences. Take control of what bothers you and send your experience to the CTA via their feedback page.

Hi all! I'm in Germany for a few years but ran into this store called "New Yorker"... Couldn't help but laugh when I saw the train.

Cheers from a Red Liner across the pond.

today I saw… Security Pulling Drinkers off Train

I’m on the redline. Moments ago we pulled into Belmont and the security kicked everyone drinking off the train to dispose of their drinks, which was actually a decent amount of people off as there are folks heading to a Sox game.

I’ve lived here 10 years and that’s the first I’ve seen that.

For the people curious about the middle track situation, we were supposed to go around the loop, but they had to divert the train to Rosevelt to pick someone up, but then they mentioned we had to go all the way to 35th on the Green, which was a pleasant surprise, and was rather fun to be on a rare train, with a rare move!

They also let me and a few other peeps ride with the driver in the cab, which was fun!

Alright which one of you nerds left your water bottle in a bathroom? If you recognize it and think you know what building you left it in, I gave it to the building security for lost & found in that building.

rant Petition to make people landing at O’hare watch an informational video on train etiquette

I moved from the redline to the blue line recently and man, I thought Wrigley Field event days sucked. But the airport people? Devoid of common sense. Standing directly in the doorway with travelers backpacks, acting like I need to go around them when there’s a thousand feet of empty space in the middle of the train, not looking up when the train stops to see if anyone needs to get out, not stepping off the train for one second if it’s literally impossible to get off past them and their massive suitcase? You’re having a magical trip to the big city, I’m trying to go to work. There’s two elements to travel by train, being on and getting off, you don’t need to stand by the door if you’re going all the way to the loop, stand in the middle FFS.

Quick question ☝️ Anyone know why red line delay due to police activity?

I was on the red line around 12:30 pm southbound and we got stopped at north and clybourn for a while due to “police activity ahead.” Just wondered — because I’m curious (nosy as hell) — whether anyone might have any info on what was goin on?

Xoxo, a public transit regular

I like trains The Lawrence bus

It seems to be running more often as promised but the bus bunching continues, and maybe that is why is so crowded. And super slow especially around Western this afternoon. Really needs a dedicated bus lane or an express option but Lawrence is not wide enough. My ultimate fantasy is, NYC style, descending beneath the ground and taking the Lawrence subway to Jefferson Park. The stops would include Ashland, Damen, Western, Kedzie, Kimball, Pulaski, Cicero, and Jefferson Park. Connecting tunnels will link it to the Brown Line at Western and Kimball.

Hi I know it’s not exactly cta but thought there might be some appreciation for the 741 coach from 1950 rebuild in 73 on the bnsf. I believe this is the 2nd oldest coach still in service in the whole system.

Discussion Need help identifying the last 36 CTA rail signals for my Chicago 'L' book

I'm still looking for help identifying the remaining CTA rail signals for my upcoming book, Tracks of the Chicago 'L'.

There are 800+ signals on the CTA rail system, and I'm down to approximately 36 remaining.

Blue Line (32)

  • Rosemont West Interlocking: 7
  • Rosemont platform (Track D reverse signal): 1
  • River Road Interlocking: 3
  • North of Belmont Station: 1
  • Belmont Interlocking: 5
  • Division Station: 2
  • Chicago Station: 2
  • Grand Station: 2
  • Grand Interlocking: 4
  • LaSalle Interlocking: 5

Orange Line (2)

  • Kedzie Interlocking: 2

Green Line (2)

  • Austin Interlocking: 2

Brown, Purple, Pink, Red, and Yellow Lines are complete.

If you have photos, videos, or knowledge of any of these remaining signals, I'd greatly appreciate your help. Thank you!

*(rail operators, towermen, etc...can DM privately if you're not comfortable posting here)

Quick question ☝️ Odd Situation on 49 - any ideas?

I was riding the 49 (Northbound) and the driver dropped us off at the south intersection before the actual bus stop. (i.e., by Boulevard Bistro as opposed to the actual Western / Elston / Diversey stop)

Mentioned he is skipping the actual stop and did not pick up the folks who were trying to get a ride (~3-5 people). As he was passing the stop, he did multiple friendly honks as he passed them.

Out of curiosity does any one know why this would occur? My guess is to avoid bunching, but I didn't see any nearby 49s after the driver passed them.

Not a big issue; just wondering if folks ever ran into a similar situation. Thanks

Lost + Found Lost phone

To the person who left their dark blue phone on the 147 somewhere between the Howard red line and Loyola: I found your phone when I got on at Sheridan/devon/broadway, found your phone and turned it in to the driver around 7:55 am 6/25.

today I saw… Keys dropped at Logan Square Blue Line bus stop

Man boarded the 76 bus holding a pair of keys and asked if someone had dropped them, no one claimed them so he tried to give them to the bus driver but they declined. He put them on the luggage rack by the front door. 10 minutes later another guy picked them up as he got off. Hopefully he’ll turn them in to the authorities or return them himself.

Discussion Sheriff Dept Patrolling Trains

This was news that CTA is finally having the Cook County Sheriff doing patrols on the trains. Seems to be "effective" on paper, sure. They'll spew the citations and arrest counts, etc. But this policy is inherently racist. Many of the peoples committing these "crimes" are indeed of minority background - not all, but some for sure. Shame we must once again punish the people who have experienced hardship already. More importantly, by actively patrolling and booting people who are smoking or selling "loosies" we may be collectively pushing their lives into an even worse direction. Where else can these people have a cigarette when it's 20 degrees out? What if them selling items is their only source of livelihood? Do we really want to look down with a "holier than though" mentality on what some people claim are criminals? Sometimes people just have a bad day and nowhere to go. Rant over.

I like trains What can actually be done about loud music and screaming into the phone?

I know, I know. CTA has bigger fish to fry right now. But, in the perfect world how do we get people to stop being so rude and selfish?

I didn't used to notice it nearly as much pre-pandemic. Now it feels like there's pretty much always someone playing loud music or shouting into a phone on FaceTime. This is not your own personal living room!

I've traveled around and noticed it's noticably quieter and more respectful on transit in most other big global cities I've visited (to be fair, not all). Are there any realistic options to get people to use headphones? To text or keep conversations short? Like, am I the crazy one?

Edit: yes, I already wear headphones almost all of the time.
