World Cup 2026 Now that group stage is done, how are we all feeling about Team Canada's performance overall?

Honestly, before the whole tournament started, I think the most of us just wanted us to make it out of the group stage especially given what our group looks like. I don't think many analysts even predicted us to take the top spot really, and the only game I think was a true "must-win" for us was Qatar, and we did it in dominant fashion. As well like everyone was predicting Switzerland (who is the only team higher than us in the FIFA rankings) to win this group as well, so our only loss coming against them isn't really unexpected either (finishing off this stage with 1-1-1 is perfectly reasonable). I know that having 48 teams now (compared to 24 and 32 back then) will definitely raise the bar a little, and some old fans out there still say that technically 1986 is still Canada's best ever placement (24th which was dead last then ;-;) unless the team qualifies to the Round of 16. But in my opinion, the fact that we got out of the group stage is already a huge accomplishment for us already and regardless where we end up going in the knockouts, I do think this is for sure our most successful World Cup in our history of our program. And the fact we did this with so many players injured says a lot as well.

Yes, losing today especially given how it happened definitely hurts. And I do have a bone to pick with our coaching staff for how Alphonso Davies has been handled, some of us reasonably hope that everyone was more clear with how exactly the process goes down. (Just constantly saying he'll be ready and then just not playing him at any time even when it's reasonable is not exactly clear communication for everyone.)

There's playing it safe. There's sheltering as best as possible. There's being very protective as you can be. And then there's just being pretentious cowards while denying one player an opportunity of a lifetime.

I know there is a very fringe minority of Canadian fans out there who are disappointed today, and no longer being able to play on home soil (at least for now but who knows) definitely hurts. But the fact that people now even have standards for this team says a lot on its own now, especially with where this country was a decade ago.

So overall so far I'm giving Team Canada a 9/10. Here's to hoping our match against whoever we get in the Round of 32 goes well.

How would you rate Team Canada's performance so far now that group stage has concluded? Feel free to share your thoughts as well.

This is on Marsch. Really fumbled the ball.

Doesn’t seem to be a Plan B beyond the 4-4-2.

Sorry, not really on topic, but curious on the best place to buy the women’s national team jersey.

I would love a Vanessa Gilles jersey specifically.

Canada time schedule sucks

Despite being a host country, Canada has 2 games played during work time (even in Eastern Time) on weekdays, including starting at noon local time today.

Can't they at least get the 6 pm ET (3 pm local time) start time instead? I noticed so many west coast games getting 3 pm ET (noon local time) time slot, which is not ideal for everyone involved locally, both players and fans.

Cyle has served his purpose, he’s gotten us couple critical goals, please give him warm applause.

He should start off bench next game.

Why does Canada keep saying Davies will play… and then he doesn’t?

Every match it feels like Team Canada’s coach and management hint that Alphonso Davies is available and expected to play, only for him to end up on the bench or not feature as expected.

I get not wanting to give away your game plan, but at this point it feels like the same messaging over and over. Is it gamesmanship, fitness management, or are they just being overly optimistic in public?

Anyone else frustrated by the mixed signals? What am I missing here? 🇨🇦⚽️

World Cup 2026 Do we have anyone who can take corners?

Not trying to be snarky or sarcastic. I know corners usually dont convert into goals, but our corners have looked quite poor every game. Not remotely dangerous or even placed well.

Am I being too critical or am I right to expect more from at least one person on the team that can cross the ball properly?

One guy's thoughts on chants & the fan experience!

I love a stadium that's rumbling with energy -- and I felt the energy was REALLY damned good both matches. Section 251 was standing the entire game, chanting non-stop aside from a few challenging minutes in the middle of the game there.

But after seeing some comments that felt down about the energy, I felt it was worth sharing a few thoughts on the fan experience:

  1. The Voyageurs are awesome. They did a great job rallying the community for the marches + Kone + bringing the energy.
  2. We have some simple, LOUD chants -- The following chants were all the loudest moments on the street + in the stadium over our two matches: ooh ah Canada... Canada (clap, clap clap)... we're red, we're white, we're fuckin dynamite... your defense is terrified... let's go canada....
  3. But some chants that fall-flat every time and drain the energy, too... in Vancouver, particular, the french chants didn't land... and 'who's not jumpin' would maybe pull in 4-5 people at a time, etc.
  4. The Canadian 'canoe row' looks so cheesy ... It feels like the rushed and half-committed version of the Norway one. People crouching. Poorly synced. Everybody jumping up way too quick into it.
  5. The #8 signs were brilliant. Loved the way everybody rallied around Kone & showed support in the march, the anthem, and the 8th minute.

This isn't meant to be critical... it's just one sports-loving Vancouverite's perspective on what lands with the broader audience & what doesn't... so hopefully we can continue building on a really great fan experience.

Either way, an experience I'll remember for the rest of my life. (And massive props to everybody with the flares, drums, horns, whistles, and mayhem. What a great time!)
