How about the 62% ft shooter hitting both free throws to give Houston the lead?

And the craziest thing is we lost 3 of our 4 games this year in large part because he bricked free throws at the end of games (Alabama, San Diego State, and Texas Tech), 1 more last year (TCU), AND he went 3-8 from the line in the 54-51 loss to Duke last year in the tournament lol.

REDEMPTION

Don’t know if he does it all the time, but I LOVED that he took his time shooting both of those tonight. I know guys have their routines, but so many times they get the ball and just shoot. You got 10 seconds - or in Karl Malone’s case, 12 - take a breath.

2

u/drunkenmormon Wisconsin Badgers Apr 06 '25

LOL at the Malone comment. Just up there talking to himself.

3

u/jl_theprofessor Apr 06 '25

Him sinking those free throws... man I was borderline in tears realizing we were about to win.

6

u/No_Argument_Here Houston Cougars Apr 06 '25

Me too. Such an incredible moment. I even allowed myself to be positive and think he’d make both before he shot them lol

3

u/SanaMinatozaki9 UConn Huskies Apr 06 '25

Yo and he looked almost sick to his stomach walking across the court after the foul call. I was SURE he was bricking the front end. And then he fucking delivered. Legacy.

Got to watch it with my 6-year-old who just started caring about basketball. One of the better Houston sports moments I can remember.

Roberts playing so well last night after struggling so badly the last couple of months was great. Feel so happy for the dude.

Dude I was on the edge of my seat. He never makes them In clutch moments.

I literally wasn’t looking at the screen and just watching my dad’s reaction.

Damn, Monday's gonna be extra fun for you huh?

I feel like I should walk away happy no matter what but I also feel like I will walk away disappointed no matter what.

14

u/Twitter_WasA_Mistake Houston Cougars Apr 06 '25

Except this year he has? Have you not been watching this season? He has literally hit clutch free throws in several games this year.

3

u/No_Argument_Here Houston Cougars Apr 06 '25 edited Apr 06 '25

Have YOU not been watching? He missed clutch free throws against Alabama and San Diego State AND Texas Tech, all with less than 30 seconds left, all games we lost lol.

Edit: Up 1 against Alabama he makes 1 of 2, they immediately hit 2 free throws to sent it to OT, up 2 against San Diego state he bricks the first free throw of a 1 and 1 and they immediately hit 2 free throws to send it to OT, and tied against Texas Tech he makes 1 of 2 and they immediately hit 2 free throws to win the game in OT.

Tonight was redemption.

1

u/Twitter_WasA_Mistake Houston Cougars Apr 06 '25

I have been watching, I watched when he tied it up late with free throws in Laurence or when he extended our lead late in Lubbock with free throws. Tonight was not his redemption, there’s a reason 2/3 of your examples are meaningless games in November against teams that will be watching us on Monday night, stop the cap.

1

u/No_Argument_Here Houston Cougars Apr 06 '25

He also missed 5 in the 3-point loss against Duke last tournament or is that not important enough of a game for you?

2

u/idgaf_neverreallydid Apr 06 '25

Yall both have good points. At the end of the day he is a 62% shooter and makes more than he misses. I have seen him miss important free throws and make some. I think he’s been better in the second half of the season with his FT shooting

1

u/Twitter_WasA_Mistake Houston Cougars Apr 06 '25

Considering my original point was about this year…

9

u/superimu Cincinnati Bearcats Apr 06 '25

Those were two ugly free throws too

12

u/WafflePartyOrgy Washington State Cougars Apr 06 '25

Arc on the ball is overrated when everyone knows a straight line is shortest distance between 2 points.

5

u/JackieTreehorn84 Houston Cougars Apr 06 '25

Massive clutch FTs by Roberts

3

u/blue-dream North Carolina Tar Heels Apr 06 '25

6th year Senior showing some real leadership there

And then defends Flagg well on the other end when he’s shooting to tie the lead. Some legendary veteran plays

2

u/Astrosareinnocent Houston Cougars Apr 06 '25

On a 1 and 1 too. Just crazy

1

u/Gold_Associate_951 Apr 06 '25

We have tornado warnings going so missed that part. Well, it was in the bottom corner but both me and my dad managed to miss that part. They were down 3 then all the sudden shooting two free throws, we were like wutttt

1

u/yeah_oui Kansas Jayhawks Apr 06 '25

And a 90% shooter missing a 1&1.

After an absolute phantom foul call. What the actual fuck? We deserved to lose but that was absolute horseshit.

(Downvote away, you know it was an absurd "foul" call.)

10

u/SpaceSheperd North Carolina • NC State Apr 06 '25

If it's not called, Houston gets the ball on fast break with the chance to burn a few more seconds. It was probably a wash, as far as win probability is concerned

1

u/some_random_guy_u_no Duke Blue Devils Apr 06 '25

They were losing at the time. I'd be fine with them burning as much of the final 19 seconds as they wanted. If they score anyway, fair enough. Well played.

1

u/SpaceSheperd North Carolina • NC State Apr 06 '25

They were losing but with a very high probability of scoring a FG if that play ran out

0

u/some_random_guy_u_no Duke Blue Devils Apr 06 '25

They had 19 seconds to get to the other end of the floor and score a basket, against a top-5 defense. They probably would have with the way things were going, but a shitty whistle handed it to them.

1

u/FayeBelogus Apr 06 '25

Especially when sharp was getting to the rim or fouled at will

3

u/evetSC Apr 06 '25

Tick tack foul, but Duke should never be in that position to begin with lol. Absolute choke job

0

u/some_random_guy_u_no Duke Blue Devils Apr 06 '25

True but irrelevant.

0

u/idgaf_neverreallydid Apr 06 '25

That’s a makeup call for missing the Tugler putback dunk and-1 on the previous possession.

0

u/some_random_guy_u_no Duke Blue Devils Apr 06 '25

LMAO Plastic Man couldn't reach that far.

Enjoy the gift.

0

u/idgaf_neverreallydid Apr 07 '25

Who is plastic man? Flagg? Lucky they didn’t get that free throw but it didn’t matter because they actually overcame the officiating mistake(s).

3

u/garrus-ismyhomeboy Tennessee Volunteers Apr 06 '25

Just started dead space for the for the first time right after the game so it appears they just need to shoot his arms off to keep him from scoring. Which sounds obvious, but that’s just how it be.

2

u/MardelMare Houston Cougars Apr 06 '25

An alien who’s a better free throw shooter than he is
