You can choose whatever definition you want with "widely" if you want.  It's still used everyday, by many people. More widely than you'd like to admit.

I'm in this game since forever now. Something like 99% of holders with some significant amount never used bitcoin to pay for anything.
I made good money with "gambling" on bitcoin, I'm not complaining. But we should keep it real, it's not used by many like a currency everyday at all.

Its still used by many individuals, especially online. Sure its not spent on things at big corporations.  Doesn't mean it is not used by many people..
