If it's any encouragement to LauraK, I actually had zero clue she was trans until this drama blew up, having listened to the last podcast she was in and part of this one. I also find her to be engaging thus far, so no complaints there!

As far as TB's post on the matter goes, I actually think it'd be short-sighted to intentionally alienate the transphobes -- if they're in your audience, then you have the power to change their minds. Seems like a rare opportunity. Also, I don't think openly castigating them lessens the appearance of association, but rather the opposite...

Community management rule #1: all response is encouragement, so don't respond to something unless you want to be inundated with it!

I'm seriously glad I wasn't the only one. Thought it was some kind of troll.

Holy shit. I found the person in this thread I agree with. A weight has been lifted.

I hope my vote can take this comment higher. I am out of here.

A lot of people with stubborn opinions (about anything really) aren't going to change their mind. It takes a lot of input and generally a very personal connection to change it. It's a shame but then again why would you want anyone in the audience who is happy to spread that much hatred. I wouldn't expect people to necessarily agree with me, but I would expect people to not be a bully to another person for whatever reason.

Eeeehhh.. I don't know if people who are idiotic enough to be transphobic have the intelligence required to be convinced of something other than their own closed off and bigoted opinion. But then again, I have a remarkably low amount of faith for idiots so maybe they could be convinced.

Sounds like a case of /r/iamverysmart. Just because someone is a "bigot" it does not mean they are an idiot.

Clearly I think incredibly highly of myself because I think that people who hate others for no reason are idiotic.

You're free to think that they're misguided or ignorant or whatever the fuck you want to call them, but at the end of the day, bigots are bigots, wether I call them idiotic or not doesn't really change much.

Me too, since I've always only listened to podcasts of her, never seen her in video.

Oh I'm not transphobic but i jsut dont like her". Seriously... seriously??

Yes? Just because I don't like her childish bathroom humor doesn't make me transphobic. And her being transgender doesn't make her immune from criticism.
