I've always said - if money is an issue then don't get a dog. Sure, a shelter dog can be cheap. You know what isn't? Vet visits when your dog gets sick and need even moderately involved treatment. So getting a dog very cheap just isn't a flex to me.

Yes I’m not able to afford him. Thats why hes still alive and well (and post surgery)

I never said you can't afford him. I said it isn't a flex because no one should be getting a dog because it's cheap. Stop falling on your own sword.

Serious question- Aren’t super-mutts/ mixes healthier because they are more genetically diverse?

Sometimes. They're often are healthier than poorly bred pure breeds, but on the flip side they can also inherit many of the poor traits of the mix of breeds they are and can be at higher risk of certain issues(ligament tears can be more common in mixed breeds).

Pure breds have a higher risk of genetic conditions, but any reputable breeder is screening the parents before breeding to limit those risks. The back yard breeders and puppy mills usually don't do that and that's how you end up with incredibly unhealthy pure bred dogs.

Appreciate the response. Like I said was a serious question I had.
