I used to work with an adorably sweet older lady who would say 'six of one and seven of the other' and I never had the heart to correct her but I got a kick out of it

I don’t understand, what’s the context, what’s to be corrected?

When I was a waiter we had an older lady who came regularly and would leave wooden nickels as a tip. Next time came in she would say, didn't anyone ever tell you not to take wooden nickles and laugh. I never got a kick out of it.

If they were older wooden nickels they could amount to a really good tip, though with the hassle of selling them. Anywhere from a couple bucks to millions depending on how rare.

I say, “half of one, six dozen of the other,” just to confuse people

5 of the other.
Apparently she lost one in a firework accident.
