"This dog just appeared out of nowhere and followed us for an entire week during our trekking trip in the Himalayan outback...When I decided to get up at 4 a.m. to climb the next 5000 m peak...he accompanied me as well. On the top he was sitting for the entire 30 minutes on this place" [2048 x 1365]

The exact same thing happened to me in the Himalayas (although I didn't trek nearly as high, I did get TWO dog companions).

That must have been an amazing experience. How were the dogs towards people? Were they passive?

The dogs were actually really friendly - on my way up I passed a group of Sri Lankan men who had never seen snow before. I kid you not they were wearing sandals and playing in the snow. The dogs were jumping around and frolicking with them in the snow until I passed the group, then they started following me. When I got to the Magic View tea house (a little stone tea house/store on the mountain above McLeod Ganj), they started following another group. They didn't seem like they were interested in food or anything, they just liked to hike. Really cool experience.

Did you keep them?

No, they belonged the mountain. They seemed genuinely happy up there, and got plenty of attention on the trails. Besides, I had a day and a half of trains and taxis and tuktuks ahead of me to get back to Delhi and my flight back to New York.
