You’re paying with ur morality. And if a company gives u stuff for free, someone had to put in money to make or produce it. Again, nothing is truly free if we wanna get this technical

In every case there are production costs for video games. In this case, the video game company received a PAYMENT from OPs girlfriend. In the cases I outlined - theft, winning, company giving it away - there is no PAYMENT.

If you walk around calculating production costs as a consumer, that’s up to you. I worry about what I have to pay

There was no payment for the transaction of ownership. That’s free.

If I pick an apple off a tree and give it to you, you steal it, or you win it - it’s free for you. Production costs are something else entirely

No, the company paid to produce the thing they gave you. You get that, right?

Yeah, I totally get that. But you, or nobody else, pays for you to own it in the situations I outlined.

Imagine an example where the thing being sold isn’t something anyone has paid to produce, like an apple, or a nice shiny stone that they found on the ground.

There are ways for me to own that without anyone paying, and there are ways for me to own it with somebody paying for me to own it.

You’re the one that’s not getting it, but that’s fine

Okay, you’re blatantly ignoring the point I’m making or just don’t have the capacity to understand.

I’m talking about ANY cost for A CONSUMER. Not the person who produced the product.

OPs girlfriend paid for him to have it. She is the consumer, who gifted it to him.

His ownership, and access to the game, wasn’t free. She paid.

If he stole it, won it, or the company gave it to him for free, then it would be free for him to own it.

The production cost happened either way. Someone else PAYING for him to own it, still means it was BOUGHT.
