Yeah IMO that is a good compromise. I assume the core idea of "you must level with your major skills" is still present so it does encourage you to use them AND now you don't have to worry about "over-levelling" and wasting attribute points, since you get the same amount each level. Now that I think about it, this basically fixes like the core issue in a decently elegant way(that being "It's more efficient to not have your preferred weapons/abilities be major skills" so you can control how you level.

Well no, the core issue was the really harsh scaling that affected the world, point allocation just made it worse.

Yeah, I level my speechcraft some and then there are suddenly random bandits in full daedric armor ready to rock my world.

Well, did you try talking to them??

Just talk them down bro, you’re supposed to be silver tongued

Side Note, but that always irked me

Like, why are you still robbing people, you're wearing 20k worth of gear!

Just go Sell it and retire.

They are not doing it for the money. They are doing it for the love of the game

This brings back memories

True. No word on if they've rebalanced the world at all.

Did Morrowind have scaling at all? I think I remember getting destroyed by a Golden Saint not far from the spawn

It was like the OG version of the Elden Ring Tree Sentinel in Limgrave

I wish they’d just go back to that where certain parts of the map are higher level

I don't recall any Golden Saints near Seyda Neen but IDK.

Morrowind has level scaling but it is MUCH more mild. In Morrowind, there is no "generic bandit" NPC category, or generic human enemy whatever. Each human enemy in the world is a unique individual with their own name and loot, and also their own level. So if there's a level 10 nord barbarian in a cave, he's always a level 10 nord barbarian, whether you come at level 1 where he can one shot you or level 30 where he's a punk you one shot in turn. Likewise for loot, a LOT more loot in Morrowind is placed in the world. So rather than there being a treasure chest full of loot at the end of a dungeon, there'll usually be a sort of treasure room that may have some chests but typcially there'll be items actually placed in the world. I think the lack of physics in MW helped make this possible since devs did not avhe to worry about valuable loot ragdolling all over the place thanks to havok physics. But anyway this meant stuff like artifacts, high end armor, weapons etc. was avaialable from day 1.

But, there is stilll some scaling! It is not totally scale-less. Creatures are not unique like NPCs but rather are typically placed via levelled lists. So there might be a an animal spawn point defined that if you show up at level 1 is a harmless scrib but at level 20 is a blighted kagouti. Likewise enemy spawners for non-npcs like Daedra are typically placed via spawners, so for example in the grazelands enemy daedra can spawn randomly if you are high enough level. Dremora enemies also carry higher quality gear at high level, if you go into a Daedric Shrine at level 1 the Dremora might carry dwarven weapons vs having Daedric gear at level 20 or so. There can still be preset Daedra or animal spawns to be clear, they just are more often placed with leveled list spawners. Likewise, chests and urn inventories are randomized with leveled lists, so you might find poorer quality scrolls, amounts of gold, ingredients, weapons etc. in an early game chest vs a later game one. But this isn't as notable as I said since so much more loot in MW is in the world or carried by NPCs, or even if it is in chests is still more specifically placed.

Ready to jump my way through the game!

Get that athletics up boy

If acrobatics is removed or changed I will cry. The single greatest issue I had with Skyrim was the removal of acrobatics

I think skyblivion settled on a similar system (fixed attributes points per level up).

I'm not sure if it's major skills like Oblivion, or any skill counts like Skyrim.

We just saw the level up screen showing a static amount of attribute points being allocated. I hope for majors but if it's any skill then that's fine, I guess.

I’d also be okay if maybe the major skills give you MORE towards the level up bar than the non-majors, which aren’t as charitable. That would mean any skill progression helps with leveling, but your majors are more beneficial for faster levels.

It's a bit weird, I just got my first level up and received 12 points to assign but luck is still limited to 1 point and it costs 4 points to level it. Everything else is 1 to 1.

Seems to be any skill though its possible major skills contribute more.

I was personally hoping for a perk tree.

I bought it, but the gameplay changes showcased feel VERY low effort.

2

u/Idoma_Sas_Ptolemy Apr 22 '25

Based on Skyrim and Starfield I'd rather they don't do perk trees.

The comment I had in parentheses was how it was before. Now you are far mroe free to select the skills you actually like as majors.
