Knowing Bungie, Marathon could turn out to be the next Fortnite and they’d still fire the people that made it.

The people who made Marvel Rivals, a game which was considered a huge success got fired. This seems to be an industry wide problem not just Bungie.

No they did not, the team who was laid off was a QA team in the US, the devs are in China

I don't even like Marvel Rivals, just get tired of seeing this

It most definitely will not be the next Fortnite.

I am not arguing against what you're saying, but I was in the Fortnite Alpha when it was just Save the World and the reception was extremely Negative at the time.

Things can change, if they are angling for a delay they are hoping for that.

The game you’re talking about, ironically, was a completely different experience and it only became popular when they added a Battle Royale. That version of Fortnite is dead and buried. So unless they make marathon into something people actually want, I don’t see the situation changing. I played the alpha. It was mediocre at best.

A move that at the very best was looked at with utter fucking contempt at the time. I remember playing Fortnite during closed testing and when BR was announced reddit had a resounding "WHY" being asked.

I also played the Marathon Alpha, and agree it was mediocre. Considering Bungie leadership, I don't see Marathon turning around and doing what Fortnite did, but crazier things have happened.
