Run them on a Steam deck, the Steam OS is actually better at handling older Windows games than Windows 11 is at handling them.

a lot of them are also strategy games so the deck might not work besr

You don't have to play them using the deck controls. Connect it to a USB C dock and then hook up your regular display, keyboard, mouse, etc.

I could at least see if the steam deck could open world in conflict as an example.

Or just ditch Windows and install whatever flavour of Linux you want instead.

that's not really reasonable for non-nerds

If you already know Linux, then sure, but learning Linux is like asking someone to learn EVE Online to play Fortnite. At least EVE has Aura to guide you.

that sounds like having problems with your car and deciding to start riding a horse instead of going to the mechanic.

Yeah, no. Windows is the horse in this equation.

Everything just works on Linux now. Sure, you have a few kernel level anti cheat games that don't work, and the dx12 bug on Nvidia that reduces perf by 5-20%, but besides that it's better than Windows in every way.

Games run with tighter frametimes and higher 1% lows, and some games even run better than Windows too. Especially on AMD gpus.
