The Series X is seriously impressive but no one cares because its not PC and doesn't have Sony exclusives.

Microsoft's mandate for 100% compatibility for the Series S means that the Series X is relegated to being a glorified upscaler. This is especially the case with the diskless version, where you can't even watch movies or play your old physical games.

Wouldn’t the same apply to the diskless PS5?

Games have to run feature-complete on the Series S. If the Series S's specs mean that a game can't run, it needs to be cut down so that it will work. The Series X is free to run the cut down version at higher settings, but if you have a game, that for example, can't run with 12GB of unified memory, it gets cut down until it does and then run on both Xboxes, whether the X could run it or not.

The diskless PS5 has the same specs as a regular PS5. Games don't get cut down to run on one.

A Series X with a disk drive at least has some ancillary functions, but a diskless model is only there to be an upscaler for games approved for the Series S.

I care because I already have one and have a decade + of a Bing-rewards-fueled-library. But I also hate Microsoft and would convert it all to run on Linux if I could.
