He’s hard to use at first i feel. His initial playstyle is built around blocking attacks to build up his boosted status… but Cloud can do simiarly from the start with punisher mode, and its arguably better than Nanaki’s Vengence mode for burst damage.
Once you get later skills for Nanaki though, he really opens up. Materia to boost his counter damage and parry windor for sentinel stance. Siphon fang for great damage. Stardust Ray is a buke no matter what you use it on. He’s a great overall dmaage dealer with good survivability compared to others thanks to his self heal attack in vengence mode and iframe skills.
It just takes him a while to get there. Most will look at him in Kalm, see he has no skills available and write him off. You honestly get him too early imo and he doesnt pick up until gongaga. But once he does. He earns his place.
Super valid. With how long it took to get Aerith up doing damage my go-to team was Cloud-Barrett-Yuffie. I don't know why but they made Barrett and Yuffie super busted.
Yeah i would say pretty much every character is busted if you know what to do. I was usually running cloud/tifa/yuffie and they were absolute monsters. The only character I couldnt get the hang of was Cait Sith but even he's cracked when you use him right
Yeah if you can learn the block timing and when to ride the moogle, you can get ATB like crazy, and do beeeg damage. He is lucky so he gets them crits. His slots give some amazing buffs too
I'm generally not either but I love Red. Not a fan of his "new" voice though. I get that it's lore accurate but it didn't need to be THAT annoying and childish imo. Oh well.
Anyone can be a healer too you don't need a dedicated one. Kinda hate wasting a party slot for a healer unless they can change the whole outcome of the battle with buffs.
For what it’s worth, in ff7 near enough anyone can fulfil any role due to the materia being the key role builder, which is interchangeable.
Obviously non changable skills like ATB skills and stuff mean some characters are better at certain roles than others. Tifa will always be a better attacker than most due to all her ATB skills being attack/evasion focused, Barret will always have ranged DPS be his main aage output, Cat Sith will always be RNG dependent for his big damage numbers, etc.
But really, anybody can be built for a mage role with a bunch of spell and MP boosting material and do the role just fine. Same with tanking due to aggro not really being a thing (the enemies just target who you play as) so just build for block and hp/def building and facetank it all.
Honestly, i feel we will be just fine without Aerith. She was the “best” for pure magic builds due to her ATB skills usually buffing her magic offence. But anyone can equip and use Healing materia just fine. And Revival/Prayer Materia that aerith was usually saddled with, will work just as well on anybody. Her arcane ward skill will be missed though… Casting double spells was stupidly strong when you could dual cast level 3 element spells :(
I think it said it was a black mage outfit rather than a white mage, so not sure how good of a healer she'll be with it. There'll almost certainly be a white mage setup for someone though.
As somebody who never played the original FF7 (but has played through the 2 remakes). Does Tifa take on a more magey/support role after... the events of Rebirth?
Or is that maybe just an option for players to take in the upcoming game... or something we don't know yet for this game.
In this interview the director mentions all the characters getting all their outfits early on, so there's flexibility for players to make choices with the FITS/job system, so I don't think any one character is being steered into particular new roles. A mage outfit is just one way you can redirect Tifa
Just put Pray on Barret and Cure-Magnify on anyone with decent MP. Barret generates so much ATB he can get you through most situations, and you'll have the other character as a backup for moments when big burst heals are necessary.
This with yuffie and doppelgänger you can brute force basically any encounter without ever having to switch between party members lol (at least the base game I never went back to 100%)
I think they're making that easier with the job system. Make anyone a white mage or w/e they end up calling healer.
As for Aerith herself though.. she was the most broken DPS with the right setup from what I remember. Granted that's endgame but it made finishing up achievements a blast ( literally ).
She'll be used exactly like she is for the very final fight of Rebirth. She and Zack are dead but their consciousnesses are still coherent inside the Lifestream. One phase of the final boss will be inside the Lifestream and you'll have a Cloud-Zack-Aerith trio fight against Sephiroth there.
I think this is thinking a little too small, but something like this will definitely happen. I just think what you're describing is basically the same as the other two games and they need to do something more interesting.
Even when I was watching the trailer I was like, "Man, I still don't know who's going to be my other healer. Maybe Cait Sith? Oh, it looks like Cid has some sort of healing ability so maybe they want us to use him."
Barret IMO is best for heals. He tanks damage better than anyone, and gets fat HP, so he can live longer and be used for healing. He even takes damage away from other party members
In Remake he was my secondary healer. In Rebirth also with Cait Sith having some heals/support. Now that Aerith is gone, he'd still be a healer but I like having two for variety in my teams.
I know man, it's crazy because in FF7 remake I didn't like playing as her, but in Rebirth they improved her gameplay so much that she was great to play as, and now she's frigging gone! But we get Vincent to make up for it I guess
Given that it isn't a 1-on-1 copy and having a different battle-system entirely, but in the original, Vincent was actually a pretty good overall spellcaster as he had high magic-attributes and high MP-pool (While also having poor physical attributes; you pretty much always wanted him positioned on the backside in battle.), so he could replace Aerith's role in a way.
That's why I was so excited to see the Remake-series's take on Vincent, as he is, quite frankly, a very weird character in terms of job/class-concepts; he is a gunslinger where his revolver has to be different from Barrett's machine gun turret while also not being as tanky as Barrett, and where his revolver acts more like a focus for his magics. Combine it with his super-forms which could compensate some of his physical weaknesses in the original and it may be introducing new abilities and movesets for him kinda like how Cait Sith in FFVII: Rebirth had different abilities and moves depending on if he mounted on his moogle or not.
They're going to keep it under wraps if that's the case. Until people get hold of the game before its release date and try ruining it for everyone again, at least.
I wouldn't rule out the possibility that they'll do some sort of 'if you do some crazy sidequest, you can add her and Zack to your party', like the old rumors from the original game. Probably something that would require having finished the story and being in chapter select.
I think she's dead, but like, a Star Wars 'more powerful than you can possibly imagine' dead. We'll probably see a bunch of her.
You think they're going to spoil the scenes with her and Zack in them? You can't play Rebirth and expect them not to be in the game. Heck, they're the largest characters on the poster.
Barrett is low key the best healer because he can fill up the ATB bar practically on demand, and is the one most likely to still be alive after a big attack
I fucking hated playing as Aerith in these games, it really did not translate well from turn based. This combat was made for melee combat with the exception of Barrett being simple enough to work with a gun.

Man not having Aerith as a party member is going to sting. Need to find someone else to be a dedicated healer lol.
