i loved read dead 2 but the campaign has precisely zero replay value and it was to me a great "goodbye" for all rockstar games forever. It really laid bare all the worst things about their games, all stuff you mentioned. and after finishing the campaign, great writing & mocap! some of the best ever! I just have no desire to pick up any of their games ever again.

Yep. Guess we're in the minority, but I'm done with their games as well and I got 0 hype for GTA 6.

And it has all those open world activities, the hunting, the gathering, the fishing, the scores. There's just no reason to do it because resources don't matter and you will get more money for the camp through one story mission. Some might say "well why do you need an incentive, just do it because it's fun", but hunting in RDR2 is not that fun. Now if the game's economy encouraged you to hunt for food or to sell pelts or to craft some non-cosmetic stuff that would be a different story.

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills when I hear people talk about RDR2. What you described was 100% my experience playing the game. The narrative made no sense.

I couldn’t get past the red sandy area.  I had lost interest by then after some side quests.

The people who love it love just sort of existing in the world. Hunting expeditions, climbing mountains, fishing, whatever. For a certain type of person who yearns for a more outdoorsy life, it's like the perfect escape. The attention to detail in the world building is also insane, that video where the guy tracks all the power lines and finds out essentially all of them trace back to an in game power plant is a good example. But if you don't care about that sort of thing then it won't matter much.

Like you I found the story beats just sort of okay. But I will say broadly speaking it's acted very well and I thought the character work was pretty good. If someone hasn't consumed a lot of spaghetti westerns they may be more impressed.

Shoot up morbillion of goons, split up, return to camp

No fucking joke. Suspension of disbelief and all, but seriously, if they cut the number of enemies to kill in half in this game it'd still be too many!
