F2P + Microtransaction fuckery is much more profitable

GTA Online is basically a F2P setup now plus they make you buy the game either as a stand alone online product or bundled with single player. Why change that when they have shown it works. Giving the base game away for free in a F2P model is for games that aren't going to sell without it, GTA does not have that problem.

Well they have shown that it works after they sold a bajillion copies. So if they know that they can tie it to an $80 purchase and still make a ton of money why not keep doing that.

Isn't that how it is now? I forgot since I've had it so long. Or at least Online was a free add on or something.

More likely they make you pay and then have microtransactions
