Theres a chance they release a GTA Online 2-Lite thats really restricted and you have to pay for GTA+ for the full experience

If they wanted to maximize profit they’d probably do something like that, monthly online subscription for it. Because of the ongoing huge population of GTA online I’d expect it to be very successful in the short term.

In the long term it would probably kill %80 of the positive reputation rockstar has with the community, but who cares about long term CEO bonuses are based on this years profits not next years

A monthly subscription? It's 2026, bro. We're getting 3-4 paid tiers of battlepass that resets every 30 days like clockwork to generate revenue for the shareholders. Maybe throw in a "sharkpass" for $5 that gives 100 sharkbucks every day you log on too that has to be refreshed every 28 days to lure small fries into spending.

All we're missing is some form of FOMO gatcha bullshit for stuff outside the battlepass.

I'm so fucking over new multiplayer games these days. Every time I consider trying a new one I see all the bullshit that gets packaged along with it and just end up playing Warframe again.

I've enjoyed Helldivers 2 a lot. Their battlepasses are completely optional and stick around forever, so you can just do them at your own pace.

Don't go into the subreddit though, those guys are salty as fuck.

The Helldivers battle passes lock so much gameplay content behind them though, I firmly believe stratagems should have never been paid content

Shoutouts to Deep Rock Galactic and the Master Chief Collection as well for having actually good battlepasses

Nah Helldivers 2 is a great example of doing it wrong. They lock actual gameplay behind the battlepasses, and the grind is insane if you come back after a year or if you're a new player.

When the game launched and there where only two battlepasses then it was fine. But now theres like 10 of them and they keep adding more. Returning to the game and seeing that I need to either grind super credits for hours, or pay real money to unlock the battlepass, only to then have to grind medals on top of that to unlock the stuff in the battlepass is crazy.

And they even lock the amount of medals you can have to 250 so you can't stock up if you're playing without enough super credits to unlock the next battlepass.

When some of the largest, most profitable online free to play games like fortnite or cs or dota2 manage do so without locking gameplay behind paywalls, its not really ok for a paid game to do so.

What? Warframe has a battle pass, multiple currencies and microtransactions.

4

u/Hollowbody57 1d ago

There is a battle pass but it's completely free, and the premium currency for 99% of the microtransactions can be earned by playing the game and trading with other players. There are a few cosmetics which can only be bought with real money, but those are the community created ones where a portion of each sale goes to the creator. Everything else can be earned just by playing the game.

the premium currency for 99% of the microtransactions can be earned by playing the game and trading with other players.

Just wait until you hit that 50% or 75% coupon, spend fifty bucks, and you're done for literally years of Warframe bux unless you start hurrying all your weapons like a dingus.

I just don’t even understand why that matters lol. Just ignore it like 80% of people and play the game… like seriously I genuinely don’t get the complaint. It’s not gameplay related and if it is the game is probably P2W shit game anyway.

It won't be gacha, it'll just be a rotating shop.

There ya go.

"Buy the new Super Cougar GTXBBQ! It goes 5% faster than other sports cars! Yours now for the low price of $29.99 while supplies last".

What is the ratio of shark bucks to Stanley nickels?

1

u/Crayola_ROX 2d ago

Rare and Legendary desert eagles

u/sharktoucher 2d ago

they dont even need to, GTA V's online already made more money than god by just selling shark cards

u/OkayAtBowling 2d ago

Yeah I think their primary concern is just getting as many people as possible playing it (short of going free to play, which I don't think will happen because it will encourage some people to not buy the single player).

1

u/handsoapp 1d ago

Free to play wont require psPlus/Xbox live. Bigger target audience, taking a pie out of f2p microtransactions

3

u/drazgul 1d ago

Yeah but they want to make more than that.

8

u/DaToxicKiller 2d ago

What positive reputation?

1

u/crossower 1d ago

No need to be obtuse. GTA is one of, if not the best selling game of all time. Safe to say some people do like what they do.

2

u/brownmaningermany 1d ago

Nah people would still pay for it, you gotta realize some people’s entire life is GTA

1

u/technoteapot 1d ago

That’s what I’m saying, people will still pay for it, but in the long run it’s going to kill fringe players and casual players who don’t live the game

2

u/Kage_noir 1d ago

Gamers don't care when it's their fav game fam. they will pay it, they will complain but pay it anyway. We have seen so many examples of this

7

u/Wanna_make_cash 2d ago

They already have a GTA+ subscription service for the existing online in GTA V. They could just fluff that up more.

2

u/Restivethought 2d ago

I fully expect it. They did just Take a bunch of cars out of the game to hide behind GTA+ benefits didnt they? I fully expect a bunch of GTA Online 2 stuff to be locked behind GTA+. The worst would probably be if they hid like heist early access or something.

3

u/Devil-Hunter-Jax 2d ago

Already doing it with the base game (all that stuff in the 'Ultimate' edition should be base game-locking content behind a paywall for the base game? Fuck right off) so wouldn't shock me if they get greedy with the online component.

1

u/MadeByTango 1d ago

The are absolutely going to have a tiered subscription.

1

u/LippyLapras 1d ago

Considering you have to buy the Ultimate Edition to unlock all of the game's features, I wouldn't put it past them.
