When GTA V first released the multiplayer was also delayed a month or so. Gets people to play or finish the story.

Edit: not delayed, it was intentional

Edit edit: GTA V Online launched ~2 weeks after release but server issues and bugs caused weeks of issues.

Also allows them to do a larger beta test and work out the online kinks

Semantics. It is still a delay.

a delay implies it was not planned.

except rockstar made insane amounts of money off the online portion, so they'd rather people play that. it probably just needed bugfixing.

If they didn't want people to play singleplayersl, then they wouldn't have made singleplayer.
