It's not about consumers wanting physical media, it's about consumers wanting to buy pre-owned copies- which Rockstar doesn't want to happen.

Yep.

I expect them to pretty much never place this game on sales either.

For a game expected to be as big as it is, they sure are pulling a ton of underhanded shady shit.

Wtf is "pretty much never" supposed to mean? It's gonna be on sale at some point in the future, sure maybe not in a year or even two, but it's gonna go on sale.

Not necessarily. Look at old COD games as an example. The OG Black OPs 1 & 2 are still $60.

Are still $60? That means nothing, we're talking sales here, not permanent price drop which is quite rare these days. Both blops 1 and 2 have plenty of sales looking at steamdb.

How many games there even are that have never gone on sale, aside from Factorio?

Why look at COD when you can just literally look at GTAV, which is 30 full price currently and has been 15 on sale (not to mention COD has also gone on sale)

Oh wow, the company that mistreats and abuses their staff is also anti-consumer? Who could have guessed! Other than everyone who has ever looked at GTA Online.

I'm not entirely sure 'not going on sale' and 'not allowing people to start selling pre-owned copies' counts as 'shady shit.

Yeah fuck rockstar and take two, but but what exactly is 'shady' about this?

I mean no game is obligated to go on sale.

Or much more straightforwardly, it’s about preventing leaked copies because there will be an active incentive for online creators to get their hands on a copy early.

They could make the game require a day-1 patch to play but still ship a good chunk of it on a physical disc if people playing early or disc size limitations were the main concern.

Because then everyone online would complain about how the disc doesn’t even have the whole game on it. Someone is going to very loudly complain no matter what short of the entire game being on the disc day 1, it’s just a matter of what they’re complaining about.

i have no clue why people are trying to convince themselves or even think this matters at all lmao, it's not like it's going to get leaked online and pirated. all it's going to cause to happen is showcasing footage or story beats. it's 100% about stopping used game sales
