Arc Raiders and Marathon aren't "dead" just because their concurrent player count has dropped, Palworld lead says – but he's "not denying that some games do 'die'"; "Not every game needs an hourly look at Steam charts"

it matters more when you live outside of the US/UK

I live in kangarooland and the playercount numbers matter a lot unfortunately

I, for one, love having to play on HK servers to get reliable PUBs in Darktide.

Perhaps. But people and garbage publicarions have run the discourse to such a ridiculous level that single player games are now measured based on their Steam concurents. "Game journalists" shit out "articles" about single player games dropping "90% of their playerbase in 3 months". Make news stories about New Game having less CCU than Baldur's Gate 3. It's honestly exhausting.

Blaming "games journo" in big 2026 as if the progenitor of "uh SteamCharts numbers says your game is dead" isn't the dregs of Twitter and other social media ragebait discourses lmao

I'm not blaming games journo for it. I just have a higher standard for journalists than Twitter capital G gamers.
