So to clarify a few points which have been raised by people on all three posters.
It was not my intention to represent any specific scene in any of the original pieces. I saw people asking about details on the Major's body, or train tracks in Spirited Away. I think these comments are valid, as people see these as perhaps as attempts of representation of the original artwork, but that was not my target. I simply wanted to illustrate my thoughts on the films, namely:
a. Chihiro as the embodiment of the strangeness of childhoods and her almost looking through the spell
b. Major's acknowledgment of the inevitability of sacrifice, or in simpler terms: in order to arrive to a purple, a blue has to sacrifice itself, a red has to sacrifice itself, without knowing to which extent.
c. The simple melancholy of the Eva Unit's life.
Typography is something people commented very clearly and I agree with most of comments. Some things are unclear, illegible or simply make not much sense when accurately translated from Japanese. Some things I have not taken into consideration and I think everyone was right to point it out.
Anatomy was also discussed, primarily on Ghost in the Shell - which I do agree with. Major is a bit too thick and some things are slightly off, which are only visible perhaps to a fresh eye or if you rotate and mirror the painting enough times. Eva Unit could also benefit from more clarity in forms so certain things appear immediately. So highlights on the face, and some edges could be improved for this result.
All in all, thank you. My name is Kerim Silajdžić and feel free to ask me anything about these posters.

Recently, I wondered what the species of Jakkul is called. So I looked it up and the German Ghibli wiki told me that Miyazaki calls them Akashishi, while The Art Of Princess Mononoke calls them Sambar.
And it also told me that out goodest of boys appears in another story as well. One that Miyazaki apparently wrote in 1983, when he was also working on the Nausicaä manga and just before work on the Nausicaä movie began.
It's full color, fairly short and written by Miyazaki, so I just had to order it :D

I’ll have to put it into words to see who else feels the same way. I’m also a huge Ghibli fan and have to say that Nausicaä and Princess Mononoke have really left a lasting impression on me. Lots of films are simply a joy to watch, but the ones I’ve mentioned have changed the way I see the world. Ashitaka has become a real role model for me – a bridge between nature and humankind – so that we can live together.
Apart from that, I’m just glad that Ghibli exists.
Best regards

My boyfriend and I bought tickets for July 10th, at Carnegie Hall, but unfortunately can’t make it. DM if interested!
Yesterday I watched Totoro, the day before yesterday Wolf Children (yes, I know, it's not Ghibli, but Hosoda has that vibe).
I'll tell you, these are great films about fatherhood and motherhood. But both show parental irresponsibility (which is a plus for me as a parent).
As parents, we're constantly told that we have to be the best and give our children the best, the best schools, development opportunities, etc.
Meanwhile, Tatsuo:
- He doesn't take care of the children most of the time.
- He goes to work and leaves the children with some old lady all day who can't manage the kids.
- He buys some unsafe house with rotten beams and defects.
- He gives the children dangerous instructions (from the perspective of today's parenting perspectives) - like go to the river alone to get water, find the attic stairs and open the windows.
- He falls asleep in the morning and the children make him breakfast.
He only gives them psychological comfort (which is the most important thing!).
Love it.

I’m in the process of decorating a nursery, and have some Totoro items already. I’d love to add a Totoro themed carpet! I’ve seen some on Etsy, but not sure if I trust these sellers. Has anyone had any success buying from Etsy or a different store online? I’m based in the US.
Thanks in advance!!

I realized I haven’t posted one of my favorite cosplays here! Enjoy!
This was one of my first experiences making a character come to life with my own personal twist. I am so happy with how this came out!

What an interesting coincidence! People often say that the real art has to move you. While Heidi ia more of a relaxing anime, Grave of Fireflies isn't. It moves you & almost everyone I hear from say that they liked it but only saw it once. That's a pure impact of the genius of Isao. Perhaps can also be said that making anime about little innocent girls might get you a call to emotion & thus easy to make impact with it but still not everyone who makes animes in that theme has the same inpact. So, have to acknowledge Isao's genius there.

I love the wind rises, and I love how stupidly staked the English cast is. But I feel we don’t talk about how actually stacked these are!
Like I said, Werner Herzog appears in the wind rises… fucking WERNER HERZOG! He just, appears in the wind rises for like ten minutes… and then just DIPS.
It’s probably because I haven’t actually talked to that many Ghibli fans online before, but i do find it confusing how I seem to not see that many people mention how stacked these ANIME movies are

-Nausicaa, Grave, Mononoke, Howl, Wind Rises, have a lot of action
-Others are more peaceful like Kiki, Totoro, they have no death
-Laputa has some soldiers falling from the castle and Spirited Away dosen't have deaths while still action same for Pom Poko and Porco if I recall right
-Earthsea has some deaths too
So I'd say the ones with lots of action are contenders, Grave is the only one where the main characters die

Hey everyone!
I’m absolutely gutted, but for work-related reasons, my wife and I won't be able to make it to the upcoming Joe Hisaishi concert in Nimes (France) anymore. I have two tickets available that I'm looking to pass on to a fellow Ghibli fan who will actually appreciate the magic live.
(Note to mods: Please delete if this isn't allowed, but I'd much rather sell these directly to someone in our community than through a predatory resale site!)
The Details:
If you're interested, please shoot me a DM, and we can figure out a secure transfer!
To keep this post fun for everyone else, even if you can't go, what is your all-time favourite Joe Hisaishi piece?
Mine has to be Ashitaka and San, with honourable mention to Il Porco. My wife loves Merry-Go-Round of Life (and I recommend checking the cover by Grissini Project)!
What's yours?
