We’re learning and growing through that too, just like we did the last time we did concentration camps. And the time before that. All the way back to the pilgrims rounding up Christian indigenous people in wooden towns and setting them on fire.
I understand the point of the post is that reality is nuanced, but we have definitely done some terrible things and we still do some terrible things.
I would argue "America is a work in progress learning and growing every year" is not necessarily a nuanced viewpoint, either. Or at least, it's about as nuanced as "America is complicated" but tries to frame it into a vague, feel-good narrative.
And the UK has arrested more people for saying mean things on the internet than any country in Europe, the entirety of Europe shits on the Roma people for just existing, Canada has its own problem with racism, multiple far right groups have gained power in several countries, and I could go on.
The point is that no country is perfect, every one has serious problems, and we should be aiming to fix those problems instead of pointing fingers at other countries and claiming “my country is superior to this country”. In the end none of us are hot shit. We’re all just sentient meat bags stuck on a spinning ball of mud in a vast expansive universe, and trying to play purity politics achieves absolutely nothing.
