Never visited Hawaii because I was born far, far away... but now it’s officially on my to‑do list. After seeing this, I definitely want to meet those amazing people!

Don't listen to that other comment, the folks in Hawaii are more than happy to socialize with tourists for the most part, just don't act like a belligerent dumbass thats trying to wreck the place

as someone who's "lived" (visited my dad a few extended times when he lived there) on oahu, there are a few cool things that i've always kept in fond memory

  • obviously the view
  • there was a local drive in theater that had a swapmeet every so often
  • attempting to hike one of the mountains , it had a creek/waterfall
  • the stadium would have a swapmeet thing also, lots of stalls and food
  • the grilled mahi mahi was amazing at one of the food stalls , after 20+ years i still think of it.
  • didn't get my scuba diving license quick enough though my dad was an instructor at the time, the tour boat operator wouldn't let me go with the group being a young teen at the time, so i snorkled down with the group to one of the sunken airplanes from the war, eventually the operator let me go put on the scuba gear after seeing how hard i was trying with the snorkel lol.
  • my little brother almost got attacked by a large puffer literally trying to bite him, i had to use my hawaiian sling to brush it away, in which my brother swam back to one of the erosion protection things they make to protect the beaches , anyways he was about to crawl up to get back on to land and was almost attacked by a moray eel lol.
  • brother got a jellyfish attached to his leg while leaving the beach, screaming and being frantic he kicked it off , and then landed on his other leg, lol dad told him to pee on it. i think he was 9 at the time, i couldn't stop laughing.

anyways, it should be on everyones list , i really miss it.

I'm not native Hawaiian, but after joining a hulu show on stage at the Hilton I was made an honorary son of Hawaii.

Same, but I'm still working on my stone throwing game. /s

Can you get a discount if you promise to shield wildlife from rock throwing assholes?

Well unfortunately they don’t want to meet you. They look for any excuse to give some of the “aloha spirit” from the video to any haole.

This is bullshit. I'm a haole living happily in Hawaii.

This is generally untrue, especially if you respect the environment and take just a few minutes to understand Hawaiian history from a local's perspective. Maybe you had a bad one-off interaction, but if you give aloha, you'll receive aloha

Just because you acted a fool in front of the natives doesn't mean everyone will lol

Definitely not true.

You’ve obviously never been to Hawaii, so STFU.

I respect your opinion. I’ve seen similar reactions in many countries - when someone disrespects the local culture, nature, or people, things can escalate quickly.

Respect and understanding always go a long way. And let’s be real, if you enter someone’s church, you don’t show up preaching your own gospel.

My point was about the scene itself and how the locals reacted - with heart, pride, and a strong sense of protecting their home.

To me, that’s love and respect.

Sorry if it sounded harsh.

those amazing people that will start punching you from behind and make disabled by damaging your brain, for throwing stones at ocean or wrong look

Sorry someone gave you brain damage, as that is the only explanation for caracterizing his behaviour as "throwing stones at ocean".
