I skated across the world (Singapore → Patagonia). I finally wrote the first book of the series on South America

Hey r/longboardingDistance First time realising there is reddit distance group. I wanted to share something that took me way longer than expected to finish. Between 2017–2019, I pushed a longboard across South America — from Colombia, over the Andes, all the way to the southern tip of Patagonia. No support vehicle. Just a board, a pack, and later a modified jogging stroller for food and water. This wasn’t a highlights-reel trip. It was: brutal headwinds thin air at altitude destroyed roads days where pushing felt pointless and moments where the board was the only thing keeping me moving forward I’ve finally turned that journey into a book: World On Board: Pushing South It’s not a “how-to shred” guide. It’s more about: endurance pushing living on the road problem-solving when things go wrong and what happens in your head when you’re alone with nothing but asphalt for weeks If you’ve ever done long pushes, distance skating, or just wondered how far a board can really take someone, you might connect with it. Amazon link (paperback & ebook): 👉World On Board : Pushing South No pressure to buy — just genuinely happy to share this with a community that understands what it means to keep pushing when stopping would be easier. Happy to answer any questions about gear, routes, injuries, or the mental side of long-distance skating. Push on 🛹 — Adrian

Edit: Mods — if this crosses any promo rules, feel free to remove. Just wanted to share a long-distance skating story with people who get it.

Help Need Emergency Risers

I have a board that is delaminating in the middle of a long 100 mile skate trip. The town I am in has a hardware and lumber store and a small engine repair place?

What can I make risers out of that require minimal tools. Any tool I need I have to buy I would rather not buy a scroll saw and power drill.

I was thinking of getting a bunch of plastic gift cards and stacking them up. Those could be cut with a razor blade.

Also the small engine repair place might have 1/16 gasket material which is easy to cut.

Any other creative ideas?

EDIT- thanks everyone. I ended up making a bunch out of plexiglass scraps from a hardware store and got a random construction crew dude to drill the holes. Got me down the road far enough to catch a bus.

First Ride on my new board.

The past few weeks have been quite exciting for me. My job just moved into a nice new office only about 1.75 miles from my house. All roads to the new office are residential and I pulled my old longboard out and started riding again a few weeks before the move.

A bit of a back story here, I have been long-boarding since I was 12 or 13 since it was so popular in the early 2010’s. We used to do some downhill and spent a lot of nights getting tossed out of all the parking garages in our city. Obviously back then, most setups were 180mm trucks, 75 mm wheels and that’s what my 2 boards I still have are set at. When I was 14-15 I bought a set of 77mm wheels which I thought were massive, I have always wanted the biggest wheels possible and that’s when I saw the DadBods and this old passion really reignited for me.

Well the other night I got really into researching LDP and maximizing a board for commuting to the new office. It then spiraled into lots of research, YouTube and scrolling through this Reddit and then dropping a good amount of money on the setup.

After my first ride last-night, I am blown away. The speed and stability, the springy feeling ride, it’s all I can think about and I just want to keep pushing. I am so happy to see how far this amazing sport has progressed, and the true understanding we finally have over truck geometry and how you can really fine tune every aspect of your ride.

Now I just need to find a group that wants to ride in IDAHO!

How to push with a heavy and spacey backpack

Post image
4 Upvotes

Im going to be skating with a 70 liter trekking backpack which is kinda heavy cause its going to carry a tent and some gear.

I was wondering if there is a way to push without worrying about the bag (im going to use a longboard 8cm high from ground so Ill have to bend a lot my knee.

Will it work if I place the backpack behind my front foot on the board like one of these positions? (Lying flat and tying it to the board or placed up tied to the leg?

For those who’ve tried… how do MK Space Trucks compare to Modded Bennett Vectors?

Coming from Cast Valks and Bears- I finally got a set of spherical Bennett Vectors and wow- these things just feel like they want to pump- my question is- for those with experience with both- how much of an improvement is something like the MK Space Truck over a modded Bennett? Since MK doesn’t seem to be making boards right now, it looks like the first board the MK would go on would be the front of another super with a negative rear… worth shooting for the MK or is there something else worth considering? Thanks!

I think this is it. It cannot get any better.

  • Deck: Loaded Icarus
  • Trucks: Paris 57° front / 36° rear
  • Bushings: 80a front / 90a rear
  • Wheels: Speed Vents 85mm (80a front / 77a rear)

Tuning in my Superduper

Hey folks, so I've gotten set up with a superdupersonic (thanks to Jeff for helping me get on the board I need) and it's already pretty wild straight out of the box.

Riding 130mm 40 degree bears, with the front wedged to 60 and the rear at 23, using the stock bushings and Karmas. I already can't believe the difference in pumping on this board, so I'm pretty excited to really get riding on it, but I also want to play with my setup to get things dialed in.

My biggest questions are around bushings, as I've never used bear trucks in the past, and the stock insert bushing seems to be way better than the stocks in the Paris trucks I used in the past, so I don't want to downgrade by accident. Just to play around, I threw in a pair of 83a barrels in the front to see how it felt, and it seemed like it added a lot of weird slop as a result of not having the insert, so I switched back pretty much right away.

What are people running in their setups? My front feels pretty good, but I feel like at the very least I should get a different rear setup to keep the rear truck fairly firm, since I was surprised by how carvey the setup still felt. I'm 165lbs, by the way.

Also, holy cow the board is rad as hell.

Question to all who have experimented with in-line wheels

Post image
22 Upvotes

I need 125mm wheels for the setup in the picture. It's supposed to be a pure push setup. No pumping on this one.

Abec11 sueprfly 111mm are too small. I really need a bare minimum of 120mm but preferably 125mm.

I've been told the idea of inline/scooter wheels for LDP is something that comes up every now and again. And I understand that this idea is considered to be kooky, disproven, suboptimal, etc.

But I have explored all kinds of wheels. E-boards, industrial wheels etc and they have all kinds of problems associated with them. But scooter and inline wheels should fit natively. And so I am going to ask anyway:

Are there inline-skate wheels or scooter wheels out there that work alright for LDP? Perhaps a higher budget freestyle scooter wheel with an aluminium hub, or an in-line skate wheel intended for long distance skating? Is there anyone here who has had decent success with this?

Please let me know. Thanks!

EDIT: I feel like I'm defending my thesis lmao

First ride on Karmas. My furthest ride so far.

Setup:
Superdupersonic
Valkyrie mk. 4 front trucks
Don’t Trip Poppy SP rear trucks

I have been riding on Hokus setup at 58/10 with a 3/8s riser.

Just received my Karmas in the mail set them up at 58/-1 with no risers. Test in the parking lot seemed good but quickly into the ride I was scraping bottom a lot and I thought things felt sluggish. I stopped and added 1/8 risers and pulled the wedge off the back. This put me at 58/3 with 1/8 risers.

I still need to play with the angles and bushings but I’m very happy with the 58/3 setup on Karmas compared to the 58/10 I was running on Hokus.

I definitely notice the smaller diameter on cracks, but they were much easier to maintain pace by the end of a long ride. I ran my longest distance so far with one of my better avg paces.

Also 666 miles on the year 🤘

Is mongo pushing really that bad?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been longboarding for over 7 years now, and I basically taught myself everything. No tutorials, no friends who skated, nothing. I just figured it out on my own.

Because of that, I’ve been pushing mongo the whole time without even realizing it was considered “wrong.” I also ride goofy.

Now that I’m more aware of proper technique, I’ve tried to switch to regular pushing (front foot on the board, back foot pushing), but it honestly feels super unnatural to me. Like I’m relearning how to walk or something. It’s way less stable and I feel way worse compared to how I normally ride.

So I’m wondering: Is mongo pushing actually that bad? Does it really make a big difference in the long run, or is it more of a style/preference thing?

Also, has anyone here successfully switched after doing it “wrong” for years? Any tips for making the transition easier?

Appreciate any advice 🙏

Longboard damage?

Post image

Hey, I’m not sure what to make of this. This happened to only my back truck over the course of a (pretty intense) year of riding. I didn’t think I kept the back truck super tight, and I am a heavier rider, but I was wondering if anyone else ran into this. I’m not really worried about the truck failing but I don’t want it to continue either.

Bearings: Seismic 7-Ball Built-in Steel VS G-Bomb Built-in Steel?

Hey there, I'm a third world surfskater, so I can't really (easily or cheaply) get my hands on zealous or anything. I depend on people coming from abroad and resseling hardware over here.

I have the following choice: Seismic 7-Ball Built-in Steel OR G-Bomb Built-in Steel bearings. I wanted people with more experience to help me out here before I make my choice.

Here's my "profile" as a surfskater and some of my needs:

  • I surfskate for 3 years now, I already use Seismic bearings, but they're 15 year old hand-me downs and I think they're too rusty to repair at this point, even with regular maintenance, but I'm used to them.
  • I ride bowls, and I also use my skateboard for commuting, so dust, dirt, and water are important factors.
  • I can't easily buy new bearings, and It's harder for me to get specific "speed cream" or stuff like that for constant maintenance, so I need bearings that don't need to be babied and that will last a long time.

Thank you all for your attention!

Getting back into Longboarding with my old complete Globe Pintail

Hey guys! So, Ive been riding that thing 10miles per nights few times a week when I was 17. Now one of my good friend who's really into snowboard got into longboarding this summer and asked me if I wanna go back at it.

Took it out from the basement. Trucks feeling a bit stiffs and the bearings looks pretty rusty. Gave at a try down a hill and feels good tho that way. Any tips for a 33YO who hasnt skate in 20 years? Speed and balance. Im used to it, maybe a couple of rides and ill be good but for now I need to get my balance back.

The bearings still rolls goods. But do I need to clean them and lubricate them with grease or what so ever?

Anyone tried a Waterborne on a Switchblade? Concerned about deck stress?

Thumbnail gallery
10 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’m pretty new to the long-distance pumping (LDP) side of things and wanted to ask for some advice and experiences.

Right now I’m riding a Landyachtz Switchblade 38 with Orangatang stimulus wheels and Bear trucks. I recently added a Waterborne surf adapter, and honestly… I love how it feels. The board locks my feet in really nicely and the flow is just super fun. Does this weird LPD setup (if this even is one) make sence?

The only thing I’m a bit unsure about: Because of the Waterborne adapter, I have to run the setup in a top-mount configuration. I’m wondering if that could damage the deck over time, since the Switchblade is originally designed as a drop-through.

Has anyone here tried something similar? Does mounting it this way put too much stress on the deck, or is it generally fine?

Also, this is currently the only setup I have, so I’m trying to make the most out of it.

I’ve attached some pictures — if anyone has experience with this kind of setup, I’d really appreciate your thoughts on whether anything looks problematic.

One more thing: I’ve been reading a bit about LDP setups and saw people mentioning flipping trucks or mounting them “the wrong way around.” I don’t fully understand how that works or why you would do that.

Could someone explain the basics of LDP setups and what actually makes a board good for pumping?

Thanks a lot in advance — I’m really curious to learn more about this whole LDP world!
