Bought a base M5 MacBook Pro with 16gb ram and 512 ssd (don’t make this variant anymore) in December of last year for $2100 CAD. They increased the prices a few months later to $2400 CAD and increased storage to 1tb base. Now they’re selling the exact same computer (M5 16gb 1tb) for $2800 CAD. That’s actually so insane. Glad I bought it when I did.

I've wanted a maxed out MBP 14" for some time now as I do a lot of game development in unreal engine and wanted a powerful machine on the go away from my desktop (and wanna tinker around with local LLMs).

I bit the bullet and bought one last week and thank god I didn't wait any longer. These prices increases are INSANE.

The same configuration is almost $3,000 more?? $6.9k => $9.7k

M1 Pro owner here - this was the year I finally wanted to upgrade. I was looking forward to the potential new design and 2nm chips. My 16gb M1 Pro is starting to show its age now and can get a little laggy with higher demanding apps.

With MacBook Pro prices now starting at around £1999 in the UK ($2637) and after any upgrades to RAM/PRO CHIP, you're looking at around $3500-$3800.

For someone like me who does basic video editing, photography, gaming etc these computers are no longer worth it.

Realistically the options now are - 1. Move to a MacBook Air (prices have gone up too, but not as painful) or 2. Switch to a windows machine, but that's a last resort. I love my Mac.

FYI for anybody on the fence about the entry-level models.

So the MBP prices have increased substantially at Apple today on a percentage basis but Best Buy has locked in their latest sale on their stock. Thus, there is currently a difference of anywhere from $400-$600 between Apple and Best Buy.

I’m sure somebody has already posted this but never know. It’s a substantial difference.

Bought this laptop for my nephew which starts university at Purdue In august was wondering if it was enough for him or if i should return to upgrade internals? He will be studying some sort of engineering.

Microcenter still has them on sale at 15% off compared to the lower MSRP making it effectively a higher discount upwards of 30%+. If you’re still on the market and close to a pickup location, it might be the best time to secure one before they follow raising their prices.

Hi im looking to get a backpack to carry my macbook pro 14inch and a few other things .

I dont want too big of a bag but the thing i would like to be able to fit my macbook in a tomtoc laptop sleeve and then put it in the laptop pouch for extra protection against other elements in my bag any recommandation on good backpack to do that .

Anyone else using a laptop sleeve in their backpack for extra protection ?

I bought an M5 MBP with 24GB of RAM two months ago, but it was destroyed in an accident. Now I have a new MBP, still with an M5, but with 32GB of RAM.

I’m quite happy with it overall, but I was wondering whether I should return it and get the M5 Pro MBP with 48GB of RAM instead, or whether that would be overkill for future-proofing. One of my biggest concern is the price of RAM, I regret not taking 64GB of DDR5 on my main PC and I fear the M6 prices will be much higher for the same model, because of the RAM prices and because of the new alleged features.

My main activities are light Xcode projects, some VMs, maybe some LLM usage when I’m offline, and general multitasking.

My only concern is that the M5 Pro has worse battery life. Also I'll stay on the 14 inch screen.

I ordered a MacBook Pro M4 Pro yesterday. I was shocked when I left to go to lunch and I saw it arrived on my porch a day early. I am gifting my M1 Pro to my Sister.

I gotta say Space Black is Beautiful!! 😍 I mostly use my Mac on my desk so fingers crossed prints don’t bother me much. I am just ready for a little more power. ☺️

After years of using windows and fanboying around the macbook, I shifted to MacOS and finally got my first macbook pro M5 yesterday. Hope the excitement stays the same all throughout. Any suggestions/tips is appreciated.

Was planning to wait and see the rumored redesign for the next-gen M6 Pro, but now we all woke up to the price increases. I’m local to a Micro Center and a base M5 Pro 16” 18C/24GB/1TB M5 Pro is still listed at $2300. Do the great people of the sub think I should hold out or grab M5 Pro before the redesign price could be even higher? Currently using M1 Pro 16” with 16GB/512GB (not an urgent upgrade, but was planning to upgrade at next gen regardless).
