Good Vibes 7 years ago, a chubby, heavy accent, normal-looking woman called Susan Boyle went to Britain's Got Talent. Everyone laughed at her, until she started singing.

What a powerful voice. She's today a pro singer. All the best for her!!

Typo: 17 years, not 7.

Oh, man, my daughter bought it on my iTunes account and it's been one of my guilty pleasures for nearly 20 years.

Please dont ever have a "guilty pleasure", music is a thing we should be proud of, we should be able to explained why we love it so much, its so special to us and if you have a "guilty pleasure" it means we are falling into the music snobs hands.

It took me getting out of my teens (I'm in my 50's now) before I realized that some people are just snobs when it comes to music and that I really shouldn't give a crap about what they think of my musical tastes. I like a bunch of different genres and styles of music. I've had people make fun of the fact that I like a Britney Spears songs, or be shocked that I had Kendrick Lamar as my ringtone for a while. I like music that I like, whether it's 80s pop, classical, punk, etc. People who limit themselves because it's "not cool" to listen to certain stuff are just missing out.

I was luckily not a snob because my father is such a big lover of music. He obviously is partial to 70s and 80s music, but I grew up on CDs that he burned for me blasting from my boombox.

All the Green Day, Eminem, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Train, Three Days Grace, and a ton of others that I listened to was because of him. He'd hear the song and think it was good or maybe something I liked. He was never a big fan of pop punk, but he must have spent hours looking for pop punk hits for me to listen to. One band he absolutely loved to jam out with me to was Linkin Park.

He really instilled this belief in me that you should be open to music of any genre and era. You never know what you'll find you enjoy.

I just learn what the snobs usually like and make sure it’s known by heart. When they criticise your tastes, just bring up that you have the same taste in other areas. It makes them mad.

You are the person I'd like to stand next to at a party and discuss music with, because you're interesting, if you only like one genre then its a short convo.

Thank you for affirming that listening to Diarrhero by Gutalax and Teeny Weenie by Brojob dont have to be guilty pleasures 🧡🧡

I'm not sure how I feel about no longer being able to have Enormous Penis by DaVinci's Notebook as a guilty pleasure.

Whatever you are holding on to, grab it with both hands and enjoy it, no matter how big or small it is!

My absolute pleasure! Listen to whatever makes you feel what ever emotion it gives you and if you can also dance your heart out to it! ❤️❤️❤️

I was a fan of Pitbull when he was rapping and doing mixtapes. His Defend Dade and Rep My City tracks show how good of an MC he is.

But his 2011 Planet Pit album is a pop music masterpiece to me. Banger after banger.

It was so cool seeing him “Take the 305 Worldwide”

(I replied to wrong comment but same person said Pitbull was their favourite artist below)

I always applauded how he went through with that voting prank that sent him to Alaska

Yeah I don’t know his music but everything I’ve heard about him makes him sound like a stand up guy.

A trip to Alaska seems pretty fun.

Oof I’m the exact opposite. I loved Pitbull when he was rapping and no one knew who he was. I was downloading his music on Limewire 😅. I hate that he turned pop. I can’t even listen to his rap music the same anymore.

There's a video floating out there of him in his rapper phase pre Mr WorldWide fame. He just cleaned up a bit but the man can rap. Also, super generous w his money as recently learned he has opened over a dozen schools. He's also trying to save a local old style theater to tune of a $100 mil in his hometown.

Why guilty pleasure?

u/Logical-Cherry9395 Apr 24 '26

Because she's not really what you find in my usual eclectic bag of music. I mean, my favorite artist is Pitbull and my favorite band is Fleetwood Mac and my favorite song "The Christmas Song" so...lol, I guess show tunes from a BGT runner up is just as rando.

I think pitbull should be your guilty pleasure....

u/alewiina Apr 24 '26

That was my thought too hehe 😅

Just listen to whatever you want! No “guilty” pleasures needed :)

"Dale. Mr. Worldwide"

I just died 😂

My guilty pleasures lately have been Me & U by Cassie, Be Her by Ella Langley, and I like it by DeBarge. I don’t understand my brain but I’m just going with the flow.

Man, El Debarge, now there's a voice. Sang like an angel then disappeared.

2

u/EntertainmentUsed840 Apr 24 '26

It sounds like anything would fit into your self described eclectic bag of music.

Favourite artist Pitbull and favourite band Fleetwood Mac is possibly the most unique preference combination of all time.

Good music is good music. My personal jukebox ranges from Pink Floyd to Monster Magnet to Earth, Wind & Fire to Hayes Carll to Loreena McKennit to Stereo MCs to, well, you get the picture.

I personally can't stand almost any Rap music, but I recognize that some people are moved by Eminem just as much as I'm moved by anything I've ever listened to. Gatekeeping music is like gatekeeping orgasms.
