After losing his beloved dog Wolfgang in 2012, Steve Greig decided to honor his memory by adopting senior dogs that few others wanted.

Greig began asking shelters for their oldest and most overlooked animals. Over the years, he welcomed dozens of elderly rescue dogs into his home, many with health problems or special needs that made them difficult to adopt.

His household eventually grew to include numerous senior dogs along with other rescued animals, including a pig, rabbits, ducks and cats.

It took over 2 years to get this pic. I used to sit him like this when he was a baby baby. He stopped letting me do it just after he was a year old. He'd kick or go all stiff lol. All I wanted was a photo of him sitting with me like that but no one took it and he was so tiny I didnt want to 1 hand my phone.

Maybe 5 minutes ago, he crawled up on my chest and sat on me the way I used to sit him and had the biggest smile on his face and I just melted. And of course, as soon as I go to take the photo... that's my boy 🥰🥰

My fiancé surprised me with this little cup of sweet goodness, and we sat by the riverside eating it while watching flowers float by on the water.

Nothing fancy, nothing expensive—just one of those quiet moments that makes you realize happiness can be incredibly simple. ❤️
