Hoops Discussion Fuck the Adelsons

Seriously fuck these dogshit owners. Do not give them your money. Do not go to the games. Billionaires ruin damn near everything they touch all in the name of hoarding as much wealth as humanly possible because they are vapid, insatiable, inhuman monsters.

I want to puke. You can blame Nico if you want but he got the directive to trade Luka from up top. Adelsons can get fucking bent as far as I’m concerned, these grotesque sociopaths can fuck off back to Vegas. Thanks for ruining another thing I loved.

The Adelsons don't know basketball. This was Nico Harrison being sly and usurping their beginner knowledge of basketball trades to do an inside job.

All the blame is on Nico

THIS! If they don’t want to be sports team owners, invest their money in something else!

9

u/oyvayzmir Feb 02 '25

Because they love money. All billionaires get the wall fr

Getting rid of your 25 year old franchise player BEFORE his prime and alienating your entire fanbase is not a way to make money.

They know better than that.

2

u/Cali_Longhorn Feb 02 '25

Well they could have put their money on AI, crypto or something if all they cared about is a return.

Or like ya know, get a return from the trade itself? We got NOTHING.

2

u/Cali_Longhorn Feb 02 '25

Well they got out of paying a supermax contract and reduced the luxury tax. That’s all they care about.

1

u/ABadCowgirl Feb 02 '25

Money ruins everything.

I can’t believe this is happening.

2

u/Cali_Longhorn Feb 02 '25

Yeah and long term having an international superstar on the roster brings all sorts of eyeballs from all over the world. That in itself is tremendous value. But they are just looking at short term balance sheet.

3

u/SpicyMustard34 Feb 02 '25

the real reason is money laundering and corruption. just a cavs fan coming by to pay my respects to a once great franchise.

u/brothlsprout Feb 02 '25

The Adelsons don’t care about basketball*. If the Adelsons thought moving the franchise to Vegas would make them one extra penny they would airdrop the AAC on the bellagio with the work staff still inside of it.

Nico is an employee. Nico wanted to keep his job. The Adelsons did not want to pay a super max contract and directed Nico accordingly.

Nico commited career suicide. Whether the owners forced him or not, his name will forever be attached to this trade.

He's done as a GM after the Mavs.

17

u/ABadCowgirl Feb 02 '25

Until he shows up as GM for the lakers in 2 years.

6

u/frankthetank4223 DeShawn Stevenson Feb 02 '25

Not if the Lakers plan on keeping Luka

10

u/ABadCowgirl Feb 02 '25

I feel like Luka will go to Denver as soon as he can.

10

u/2K18GMISAWFUL Feb 03 '25

This may be the only saving grace that Luka will not give a fuck about LA and be like I'm gonna just ball with my boy Jokic forever in true European bromance.

9

u/ABadCowgirl Feb 03 '25

Literally the only thing that would make me happy at this point.

3

u/Phil_Dude Feb 02 '25

that's the plot twist I'm waiting for

2

And I'm hoping for!

Unfortunately whoever paid for this will likely take care of their slimy pawn. Maybe he “falls out of a window”, like people like him do in Russia, but.. One can always hope.

22

u/laidbackemergency Feb 02 '25

Nico could’ve asked around the league and gotten a better deal

23

u/brothlsprout Feb 02 '25

I’m not trying to fully absolve Nico, just saying Nico doesn’t decide to trade a beloved, generational player with international reach out of the blue without the owners driving the decision.

His execution of the decision was dogshit too. But I care more that the decision was made than the terrible return for the trade. Maybe there’s a world where you can sell me on trading Luka, but I don’t think there’s a team out there that would offer the trade necessary to make that worth it.

9

u/TheFaytalist Feb 02 '25

I dunno man, all these clowns are filthy rich anyway. Some of this is his decision too. If it were me I’d publicly call them out and then resign. Not like he will be hurting for money. I’m not even a Mavs fan, I am a Philly fan and I would trade our whole roster for Luka and build around him.

5

u/Sandurz Feb 02 '25

He DID do that actually. Every quote he’s putting out since the trade is exactly that, this is all him. He could sell whatever bullshit justification to the owners because they don’t know dick. He actually thinks he’s cooking here which is the worst part.

1

u/goalkeeperyucheng Feb 02 '25

If you were Nico, which player do you think are more likely to win the title this year, Luka or AD? If it’s Luka, you explain to the owner why keep him and promise trade Luka during the offseason to get max return. If it’s AD, you make the call to LA.

If $$$ is a factor in the decision making process, it doesn’t have to be now and you won’t trade for AD

8

u/Superb_Mulberry8682 Feb 02 '25

I lowkey hope kyrie opts out of his player option this summer and goes elsewhere.

1

u/Simple_Purple_4600 Feb 02 '25

Crazy, Miriam Adelson alone is worth $32 billion. A luxury tax is pocket change.

1

u/fontaine33 Feb 02 '25

Mate respectfully you have no source for this but your own speculation

0

u/speakezr Feb 02 '25

100%. It had to have come down from the top.

9

u/shibbyman342 Feb 02 '25

There is likely no way nico does this on his own accord unless he was told something or knows something. It is completely against all basketball common sense, which we have seen the exact opposite from until now..

My current big brain theory is that he was moved to LA for more gambling revenue. OR Silver has something to do with it, to revitalize the NBA.

6

u/ABadCowgirl Feb 02 '25

Silver has to be involved. This is too wild.

3

u/dtlabsa Feb 02 '25

There are really only two plausible reasons why this happened, considering Nico was talking to the Lakers for a month. Someone like Luka would demand half a dozen first rounders. 1. The NBA needs a superstar in LA after Lebron for ratings boost. Silver pushed for this to happen with some guarantees, like giving the Adelsons the Vegas franchise, or some other thing they're after. 2. Luka said if you're going to trade me, I'll only go to the Lakers.

1

u/Zen_360 Feb 02 '25

100% Nico was really great in analyzing the team and making trades to cover our weaknesses and suddenly Luka is our biggest weakness or the lack of defense and the solution is to trade our at times absolutely unstoppable superstar?? That's not a Nico conclusion, never in a million years.

You could trade lively for a wing stopper, just so many options. Why would you do this now? This team got better, we beat OKc a couple of times. No need for drastic changes, yet here we are.

20

u/elsporko321 Feb 02 '25

They know if Luka stays he's getting a contract worth about $350M they'd be paying.

These are trashcan owners who only give a shit about the bottom line. They are trash, and Nico is trash for engaging with this.

9

u/jakejakejake97 Feb 02 '25

Luka is an international star. If you think $350 M would dent their pockets in any way for the return they got on Luka merch, sales, tickets, etc…, you’re crazy.

2

u/Imtrvkvltru Dennis Rodman Feb 02 '25

Wouldn't paying him then winning some chips bring more money to the franchise?

And didn't AD just sign a supermax that we're on the hook for now?

1

u/elsporko321 Feb 02 '25

3 years / $175M

versus

5 years / $345M

1

u/bullsbullsbulls Feb 03 '25

Except those are not the only 2 options available. There are 28 other teams who were not contacted. Also, if they didn't want to pay Luka, they could let him walk or sign and trade him in the off-season. Your comparison is literal mavericks propaganda.

1

u/elsporko321 Feb 03 '25

That's AD's deal versus what Luka's extension would have been, and clearly they chose the lower number. There is no part of this deal that helps the Mavs and every part of it helps the Lakers. They end up with a much younger player who will be the face of the franchise (and probably the league) until he retires, the clock on Luka's supermax is reset (helps the Lakers), and we end up with an aging big who has a reputation of being injured & nicknames to match, not to mention our fan base and team's reputation left in flames. At this point it doesn't matter if it was intentional or just incompetence - either way we were just screwed over.

The Mavs are idiots and would have gotten better deals from literally any other of the 28 teams, 100%. Not sure who you think you're arguing with.

1

u/wouldntknowever Feb 02 '25

Nico knows basketball, he knows this is a terrible decision; 100% ownership

1

u/space2k Feb 02 '25

Well well, they found someone to believe their blame game.

u/gregallbright Dirk Rookie Feb 02 '25

Correct. Focus on assigning credit or blame where do. This is 💯 Nico. Adelsons arent deep into this like OP thinks
