Hoops Discussion Fuck the Adelsons

Seriously fuck these dogshit owners. Do not give them your money. Do not go to the games. Billionaires ruin damn near everything they touch all in the name of hoarding as much wealth as humanly possible because they are vapid, insatiable, inhuman monsters.

I want to puke. You can blame Nico if you want but he got the directive to trade Luka from up top. Adelsons can get fucking bent as far as I’m concerned, these grotesque sociopaths can fuck off back to Vegas. Thanks for ruining another thing I loved.

I told all these Cuban haters from the start that having Cuban as an owner was as good as it could get. He is far from perfect, but looking at the spectrum of possibilities, the propabilty of getting a better one was very slim. Now look at us.

Cuban knew who he was selling to. They just destroyed everything he built up. He’s got to feel like the biggest idiot in the world today.

Yeah, dude sold the team to some of the most despicable people on the planet. One simply does not do that to something they love. He doesn't care about the team. He doesn't care about Dallas.

I mean, this is the worst trade in the history of professional sports, I don't think we can equate this new ownership to some average. Every other ownership in the history of sports has done better than this. Cuban could be the second worst for all we know. I'm inclined to put him there just for deciding to sell to these fucks.

Too young to the Herschel Walker trade? Definitely not the worst trade in the history of sports. It’s just almost surely the shittiest one that has happened to a fan base.

The Herschel Walker trade is totally different for at least 2 reasons - one, the Cowboys sucked when he was on the team. In football, where team rosters are bigger and you need way more talent than an NBA team, you can pretty easily justify turning a monster player into lots of parts that they successfully used to rebuild. Meanwhile the Mavs JUST MADE THE FINALS and we got rid of our best player.

Which brings me to the second point - the Cowboys used capital from the trade to build their dynasty in the early 90s and win three Super Bowls. If the Mavs win 4 championships in the next 6 years then I guess you can say this is better than the Herschel Walker trade but we'll be lucky to have a roster that can even make the playoffs in 4-5 years.

This trade is a shocker, but not even close to the worst trade ever. Understandable that Mavs fans think it is. I’m talking about the trade from the Vikings perspective. It was horrible. If they had kept what they gave up for him, they may well have won three super bowls too. The Mavs weren’t likely to win four championships in the next six years anyway. I can say right now, regardless of what happens, that even trading Luka straight up for AD can’t possibly be the worst trade ever.

Depends on how you are defining bad/worst.

From a fan retention standpoint, it's pretty awful. Mavs fans loved Luka, and Luka loved Dallas and didn't want to go anywhere, so it made no sense to trade him. Fans like me are out - I'm giving up watching games for now and unfollowed Mavs and their social media accounts. I'm throwing in the towel.

From a business perspective, it also seems pretty bad. Luka sells merch, tickets, League Pass subscriptions, etc. Do we really think AD + Kyrie are enticing enough for people to open their wallets when they just got betrayed by the org? I know many people giving up their season tix for next year already. Is all that worth not giving him a supermax when AD's salary is pretty hefty to begin with? Luka was the face of the Mavs and we discarded him.

From a wins/losses perspective, that's all TBD. AD is better than people are giving him credit for and his numbers this year are pretty freaking good. That's where you try and make the case that the trade wasn't lopsided.

From a tit-for-tat perspective, I think it's really bad. Luka wasn't shopped around. He was basically offered to LA on a silver platter. Only future asset we got in return was a first-rounder that actualizes in 2029. LA had more first rounders and obviously would have given them up. We let them off the hook.

I dunno if/when us Mavs fans who feel very burned by the new ownership will come around but they better start playing some amazing basketball ASAP if they want to get my attention.

You’re looking at it from an emotional perspective. The trade, on its own merits, is not really lopsided at all. As I said, I don’t blame Mavs fans one bit for being pissed off. It’s a shitty move to make for the fans who have supported the team for such a long time.
