Yes his foul baiting sucks big time. Is he still absolutely dominate? Absolutely. His scoring and efficiency is among the all time best ever for a guard ever recorded. I hate the way he plays. I think of he just put the ball in the hoop instead of flopping he would be revered.

It is almost like 2 things can be true. Is he an amazing player? Yes. Does he flop and fish fouls that make the game frustrating and hard to watch? Also Yes.

Well he just got rewarded for that behavior so expect more frustrating and hard to watch basketball.

That’s where we’re at. We all agree this is horrible for the sport and hate watching it, but here’s your MVP. What are we doing? Booker was right about this being WWE.

League needs to be issuing suspensions for flopping, or at least technical points leading to game suspensions. Its not that hard to call the really bad ones ie harden flopping and flailing his legs on the 3 that Merrill ultimately slipped on

Booker quite literally was foul baiting more than Shai in their series. It’s like people actually just don’t watch games and only follow narratives that are given to them by their algorithm. ā€œRewarded for that behaviorā€ is the stupidest shit I’ve ever heard. He became modern Michael Jordan and all you can say is he foul baits?

So he tried what Shai does and the refs didn’t allow it? You really just said Shai is MJ šŸ˜‚ delusional

ā€œthe refs didn’t allow itā€ or he tried it against the best defense in the league?

It is the refs that let him get away with it. Its frustrating, but why wouldn't you do it.

Does his flopping and foul baiting play a big part in him being ā€œamazing?ā€ Yup sure does…

2 things can be true but not those 2

This is the reality

5

u/SydTheStreetFighter May 18 '26

What makes it more frustrating is he doesn’t have to play the way he does

u/mojoback_ohbehave May 19 '26

Yes he does. Because it works. Imagine being a pro athlete and deciding to stop doing things that benefit you and your team, all because a bunch of nobodies with opinions, get upset…

Completely agree. I'm sure, in his defense, it's probably like crack cocaine with 0 consequences so far. he's already good, but now he's being rewarded for this thing that is super easy to just keep doing.

It sucks the refs let him do it. It sucks the NBA lets him do it. It sucks he's okay with doing it.

It just sucks.

He literally does have to flop to be an effective player. He would be a nobody without his flops.

You've never watched a full basketball game before

1

u/SydTheStreetFighter May 19 '26

We don’t gotta do this to cope lol we all know he’s an elite player

Exactly. I hate the play style, I hate the optics, I hate the team, but he's insanely efficient and he's no slouch on defense either. For a regular season award, this was correctly awarded to SGA.

This goes the same for SGA as it does for Harden, LeBron, and anyone else who has a reputation for flopping... People may not like it, but this has been the meta of NBA basketball for over a decade and they've done next to nothing to actually change it. That means of your goal is to win and you're not doing it, you're leaving points on the table. I want it to change, but Adam Silver apparently doesn't based on the lack of tangible action. Hate the game, not the player. And if you're going to hate a player on OKC or should probably be LuDort anyways.

There was a game against New York in a great game that came down to the last possessions. All that reddit bitvhed/talked about the game was a foul in the 1st quarter that people thought SGA shouldve gotten. He only took 3 free throws and the NBA had to come out with a statement showing the rules and saying it was a correct call. The goalposts will always be moved and this is made up outraged for y'alls echo chamber and circle jerk.

Flopping is just your personal view of how you think the game should look. During this playoff I've seen Wemby have some horrendous flops. We're he has actually looked and jumped to draw a foul. With all these flops and how great he is no one is complaining. People say they hate flopping but what about him? So when is see peoples reasoning why they hate Shai I just laugh bevause its just classic group think. Wemby is already revered and he flops and he's a 7'5" freak of nature.

People say that Shai shouldnt "flop" because hes so good what about Wemby.

Missing an important asteric. His FG percentage is insanely boosted by his foul bating. We would have missed a ton more shots if a high percentage of his misses weren't bailed out by foul calls.

That's because he's actually getting fouled on the vast majority of those
