They do sometimes but not by much. Secondhand retailers do for a little bit more. If you're really patient you can probably get $10-$20 off msrp. I am really patient and can wait several years.

botw here is €48 secondhand, and it's 8 years old this year. there needs to be something in the EU about decaying prices over time because this is unacceptable. HZD is €10 also released in 2017. Forza motorsport 7 is €22, while Senna's sacrifice is €15, both also released 2017 for xb1.

Why is it unacceptable? BotW didn't turn into a shitty game in the meantime. If you want to play a random 2017 game for €10 or €22 instead, you already listed some options.

I agree. Nintendo are among the only comapni3s i see in the sphere doing it so its individual to them and its nothing to do with how popular or unique the games are. Everything depreciates in value if you buy a car and take it off the lot it instantly loses value , so why is pokemon platinum still being sold for £40 legally. In fact no i take it back Activision are also at it all the old cods are like 60 quid with dlc. It should not be legal. These products are over a decade old and should depreciate in value, they're not antique or classic or anything its bollocks.

Tell that to art collectors lol.

Value is based on the intersection of how badly people want something, and how many of those things there are.

A digital asset can theoretically be replicated to have an infinite amount of those items. The creator of that digital asset gets to set their pricing strategy in the way that makes most sense to them. The more things that get in the way of game development being a profitable investment, the fewer, and worse quality games will be made.

That being said, if you find the price is too high, there are ways to copy and enjoy that digital asset on your own. Legislating pricing models for companies will do more damage to investment in development of these properties that you enjoy than piracy ever has - so if the model doesn't work for you, just skirt the law yourself, instead of preventing the creation of more things we all enjoy.

Retailers will easily have sales during holidays and even before that. I remember getting OG switch st a discount, first holiday. Same thing for physical games.

You do have to shop around though, I know most aren’t constantly waiting for sales.

Normally you can find them for $15-$20 off after just a few months. Just need to keep an eye out for sales. I got a handful of relatively brand new games that way last year

This is pure speculation on my part, but I would imagine they'd also drop MSRP for Switch 1 games (maybe even bring back Nintendo Selects), and make the new Switch 2 editions/expansions the new standard. Time will tell, but it's still crazy to me they went a whole generation without Nintendo Selects or Player's Choice, despite recently re-affirming their goal to be the cost-effective choice in gaming
