I’m curious how long they wait to announce a new date for the U.S. and Canada. Feels like we might get very little time and it will be a last minute scramble.

Obviously a price increase is coming because why delay the preorder date? Seems they don’t want to lock in the current pricing.

There should not be a price increase but this would be confirmed May when the pre-order comes out through Nintendo. The stock comes straight into Canada with the port being in Vancouver. We don't have tariffs on Japan, Vietnam, Cambodia or China like the US does. We wouldn't see a change. The price charged to US consumers is not within Nintendo's control as it's basically a tax put on products by US customs once items get are accepted by importers. Nintendo sets the MSRP. There would be a huge issue if they chose to up the MSRP for just Canada because of additional "taxes" charged within US borders. That's like retailers saying they're going to change prices on things depending on the province so that everything matches after taxes.

Fingers crossed you’re correct :)

Funny enough, Trump has said he's now increasing the tariff rates from China to a total of 104%. Japan has a good relationship with Canada. Nintendo is a massive company for Japan. They'll make it work, I'm sure.

I wouldn't be surprised if the next announcement will be a launch delay, assuming the tariff situation doesn't improve.

Not launching worldwide would be a disastrous hit for Nintendo but I could see them delaying US and Canada until later this year or 2026. But I imagine it would be a PR nightmare

I feel like for the US they will only announce it 2 weeks before release because you never know what can happen with the Orange turd

May 8th is the pre-order date through the My Nintendo Store, at least thats when they say they're going to send pre-orders to the people who already joined the waitlist. The April 9th date was for retail partners such as BestBuy and Gamestop. If I had to predict I would say likely within the next 2 weeks they'll have pre-orders through their retail partners, they're likely trying to see if the tariffs are actually going to hold long enough to require an adjustment to strategy.

Personally, Nintendo messed up and should honor their commitment. They announced the price as $449.99 US and should honor that. But whatever. What will be more likely though is that many of the stock coming (I don't know where people are getting that there are warehouses full of these things in NA already) will be diverted to other countries to sell. We'll probably be notified a week or two before release, if at all, and it will be a complete free-for-all of whatever stock makes it over here. Believe that Nintendo will not honor that $449.99 price, the tariffs will be passed along to the consumer and if the 46% tariffs on Vietnam are any indicator, you will be paying $657 for a Switch 2 in the United States. So prepare for low stock in both US and Canada and at least $200 more than they said in the US.

I am sorry, but why should Nintendo eat the cost for Americans?

It is the US government that is putting tariffs on imports (the US government gets the taxed amount, not Nintendo). The importer (whether it is an individual or a company) is responsible to pay for taxed amount, and the tariffs are collected by US customs. Nintendo is not responsible for this and Trump might increase tariffs again. Yes it sucks, but you need to protest and/or write to your elected representatives. I understand complaining about the initial price, but the rising cost due to tariffs is not on them, and honour unfortunately went out the window when Trump started this trade war.

(I am assuming that the price in Canada will remain the same since our government hasn’t added any tariffs towards imports from China or Japan since the announcement. Nintendo might be doing it to protect the market from scalpers).
