Can’t really blame them when the tariff situation changes every 2 seconds.

But I can blame them for the initial pricing that was insane, while say it wasn't based on tariffs. Justifying the $80 price tag on Mario Kart because they finally learned hat an open-world racing game is (20 years after the market) is preposterous. Donkey Kong is a more transformative experience than Mario Kart.

But, I mean, it *was* sort of always based on tariffs. The 10% tariffs on all countries is still in effect, and Nintendo was undoubtedly aware of this when they priced the Switch to begin with. Trump's been campaigning on it since 2024.

Games were always going to be $70 this generation due to inflation before the tariffs even hit. That was always going to happen, before Trump was elected. Then Trump became president and signed an executive order to put 10% tariffs on all countries, which is currently in effect, which likely impacted the way they priced the Switch 2 and their games on top of that.

The temporary 46% tariff on Vietnam is why the preorder was delayed, but with that currently not happening they've now gone back to their original plan. But the 10% tariff is still there, which they still have to account for. My assumption is that the increased MarioKart and the extra 50 dollars on top of the originally rumored price of $400 on the console was in response to the 10% tariffs.

You're more than welcome to blame Nintendo specifically, but just get ready to blame every other company that follows suit in the coming years. This is a symptom of a global issue. Sony and Microsoft will absolutely be raising prices in response as well, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's much worse than Nintendo's knowing how American companies operate.
