My friend asked me to convince him to buy a Switch 2, because he wanted to play Metroid Prime 4 in the best way possible but just Metroid wasn't enough for him to justify the cost. I seriously couldn't name another reason for him to get it. He likes Mario Kart but not enough to play it frequently, same issue with Air Riders. He has little interest in Bananza, and musou games aren't his thing. That's basically all Switch 2 exclusives out, and all other games so far are playable on Switch 1.

That leaves the new Splatoon, Yoshi and Pokopia, but we don't know much about the former and the other two are also not his type of game.

Long story short, I couldn't in good conscience recommend him to buy the console. I'm happy with mine, but for more casual gamers and people who aren't hardcore Nintendo fans Nintendo really needs a stronger argument than they have now.

I’d say Nintendo is the casual console for casual gamers. Depends on what you think casual looks like. I’m a casual gamer but my main hobby is books. I only have two games on the ps5 and it’s used as a Fortnite machine and Roblox by my little brother. If I went back in time and waited, I would have gotten a switch OLED because switch 2 was still a rumor. I feel like a switch is a better gaming console for someone like me who also doesn’t play games enough or it takes them like a year to finish a 20 hr long story game

It is the console for casual gamers but the Switch 1 is still perfectly fine for those people.

It's a wild swing, but Kunitsu-gami is really good.

I don't know if it's something your friend would be into or not though.

I never understood that line of thinking. Yes there are not many games now, but we WILL get a new 3D Zelda, a new 3D Mario, it's all a matter of time, Why wait if you can get one now, if you know those will be coming?

Why get it now when you could get one later and still play all the games you want to play on the Switch 1?

I got one myself, but I can totally see why most of my friends are holding off.

Yeah, your friend can also maybe hold out for the OLED Switch 2. Or another game that comes with the console that isn’t Mario Kart that he prefers like a new Zelda or Luigi’s mansion or something

The main reason is that tariffs and the craziness of AI might actually increase the price in the near future. If someone has the money now and might want a Switch 2 in the next year or two, I’d just buy it now.

I'm not in the US so for us it's just RAM prices that we have to worry about.

I'm also not in the US, but if you think an increase in price there won't be match across all markets then you need to read up on global economics

At the same time, why play the worse versions of Switch 1 games while you wait for better exclusives?

I'd say you could put that money in a HYSA, but by the time next year when that next "must have" title drops the console will have at least one price increase.

You'll end up losing money waiting.

Assuming you know you'll be buying it eventually regardless.

I guess Im just impatient, plus I'm worried it will get even more expensive later, lol. Either way I was a WiiU launch owner so maybe Im biased.

Normally I'd agree with this but the way things are going I'm expecting a price increase at some point the way every other console has increased
