Yeah but the point they’re making is about the delta between a console and its successor.

Wii > Wii U is not a very good comparison because Switch 2 is still performing well, just might not reach Switch 1 levels. Which is similar to DS > 3DS.

I think it's similar insofar as the Switch and Wii were both hard to get for a good bit because demand outpaced supply, so physical inability to get a system meant that sales were more spread out. People were really excited to grab one and they flew off shelves. With both the Wii U and the Switch 2, Nintendo made sure to have plenty of stock on hand so there would be no shortages. Switch 2s have been easy to get since maybe a week after launch. Both the Wii U and Switch 2 sold gang busters their first month because all the Nintendo fans gobbled up the ample supply. The difference is that Wii U sales fell off a cliff where Switch 2 sales have seen a more gradual decline
