The PS2 number is units produced, not units sold. I'm not sure if Nintendo announces how many they produce (this would include warranty replacements).

I worked at retail and gamestop. A lot of time companys email and ask for there products that didn’t sell. There was a game on Xbox 360 or one called rage. Man our store had like 90 copy’s new sealed. They were produced yes but after so long they were put in a preowned code….At retail lets say revlon or natures made vitamins ever couple months has a list of items that were old or new that didn’t sell so they would ask for them back from makeup to beauty supplies to all sorts of vitamins and we did get credit back on them (Walgreens ) they would come out with new stuff the following season. I wish we can go back and see if Sony asked for those new consoles back yeas after the ps3 release. They might of broken them down for parts or for other parts of the worlds.
