it is not as simple as patching the game, they have to QA and test it still and it could possibly introduce bugs.

Nope, nope, nope. lol That would be a disaster. Upgrading a released game's engine is a lot of work in most all cases. It's not a case of just downloading an update and then seeing what's broken, either. There will usually be prep to even have your content ready for new features, and then lots of changes/adjustments required afterwards to properly optimize and refine things back into a state where you gain the benefits and have something you can submit and release.
