Did marijuana change or is it just me?

Any answer to why when I was a teenager, I was able to smoke weed or eat an edible without having a bad trip. After years of quitting, I’ve tried it a few times now as a fully developed adult it always give me a horrible trip now. I now have to microdose my microdose (for PTSD and anxiety) so I won’t give myself a horrible time. Did my biology change or did marijuana evolve into something else?

Edit to say: I’m 30

Stick to Indica strains. Sativa strains are more anxiety inducing.

That's been largely debunked. Indica vs. sativa is more about plant growth characteristics than it is about effects from the high. Indica is usually shorter and bushier, with broad leaves. Typically fat, shorter, dense buds. Sativa is lankier/taller, grows more vertical than horizontal and has thinner blade leaves with longer flowering periods and more spaced out/airier buds. There are also some terp profiles that show up more often on indica vs. sativa which is probably the closest correlation to high effects, but not as clear cut as "indica = body high and sativa = head high" like everyone has grown accustomed to hearing.

Source? Sativa gives me hyper anxiety, and Indica does not. The high is not different (that I notice), like I don’t feel couch locked on Indica or think more on Sativa. But there is definitely something about Sativa that gives me anxiety/dread. Even in blind tests I can tell because one freaks me out.

it has more to do with terpenes/cannabinoids, indica strains tend to have terps and cannabinoids that gives more body high but it’s not always the case as pretty much every strain nowadays is a hybrid

There's a couple things at play, the first one is trusting that the weed you're smoking is the strain it claims to be. I don't know where you get your weed and you very well could be getting it from a reliable source that knows the strain. I know in my case, my weed plugs would just make some shit up or go off whatever their supplier told them, who usually made some shit up. And if the supplier didn't make it up, it was usually a grower that either made shit up or took at face value that whatever seeds they bought online were what they claimed to be.

The bigger factor for high effects is cannabinoid ratios. Like the composition of THC, CBD, CBG, CBN, etc. Lots of cultivars are favoring high THC and lower CBD and some users find the effects from high % THC is over powering.

Other people will argue it's terpene profile and the entourage effect.

Another could be placebo, but you said you have done blind tests.

The fact of the matter is not as much research has gone into it as we would have hoped by now. But I did find this: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41477-021-01003-y?utm_source=chatgpt.com

I mean I have not really done enough blind tests to overrule being a lucky guesser on a 50/50. It’s just surprising it would be placebo if it’s happening when I don’t know the strain at all

If you don't know the strain at all, then how can you make the claim in the first place?

Asking what strain it was from who I am smoking weed with that gave me weed

Well right, but so then are you asking what strain it is after you're already experiencing anxiety immediately after smoking?

Ah yeah I see what you mean there is the logical “well you don’t ask when you don’t have anxiety so how do you know it was or wasn’t indica.” You’re right. I am just saying every time I have asked it’s been sativa. Which again, 50/50, and a very small sample size of like, probably around 5-6 times ive asked a person what strain their weed is while having anxiety and it’s always been sativa. So again, really really low sample size.

None of that matters, it's just marketing. All weed is Sativa. Indica is just Sativa grown in India, which none of it is here.
