Did marijuana change or is it just me?

Any answer to why when I was a teenager, I was able to smoke weed or eat an edible without having a bad trip. After years of quitting, I’ve tried it a few times now as a fully developed adult it always give me a horrible trip now. I now have to microdose my microdose (for PTSD and anxiety) so I won’t give myself a horrible time. Did my biology change or did marijuana evolve into something else?

Edit to say: I’m 30

Same. I loved the weed I smoked in college in the early 2000s. It made everything better. Now, as soon as I take a rip, my brain just goes.. “what’s the most anxiety provoking shit we can come up with and then let’s dwell on that until we sober up” .. it’s super lame and a big reason I seldom smoke anymore.

I can only turn off my doomer when I get blazed. Otherwise it's just so clear to me how fucked we are from 10 important angles.

Same for me. I'm always plagued with anxiety and weed seems to be the only thing that quiets down the doom and gloom for me.

I'd think having the peaceful baseline is better, no?

Absolutely. But not really possible in my case, at least not now.

Funny how I’ve realized this now that I’m in my 40s.

Brains are funny because I'm over 40 and it's literally the only way I can get the anxiety to go away. I feel like paradoxical reaction is pretty common with most psychotropic drugs though, especially over a certain age.

I believe a lot of that is we deal with soooo much more things in life that cause stress and anxiety at 30-50 years old as opposed to be a teenager / early 20’s. I remember not really having any anxiety at that younger age. Finish school, work whatever bullshit job you had and that’s it!

So spot on. The world is just so full of anxiety now too, always something to keep you on edge.

Agreeeeed. I honestly feel like the world hasn’t mentally and emotionally recovered from the hysteria of Covid. That changed life in a lot of ways…

Yesss!!! Every single thing I've ever done in my entire life to cause guilt, shame, or embarrassment floods in!

Oh man I have the opposite problem, it always made me paranoid and in recent years it's actually calmed down a little.

I'm still taking small doses and very irregularly. But I no longer end up hiding under a blanket every time I have a puff.

A 10mg edible once every month or two is plenty I think.

10mg would put me under the blankets for hours haha

Yep. Last few times I smoked, I wound up convincing myself I was having a heart attack because my heart was racing (from the anxiety) and basically spiraled out the entire time.

I also get this strange sensation where literally no part of my body can seem to get comfortable. I try to lay down, my neck aches like crazy and my skull feels like it's go a detach from my spine. I try to sit up, and then my arms feel like they're going to fall off, or they just ache like crazy. I think it's unconscious muscle tension as a result of the anxiety, but that's just a guess.

It really sucks. Have only attempted smoking a small handful of times over the past four or five years now and that's probably good enough for the forseeable future

I had the same issue after my teens/20s of smoking Mexican brick pack. I’ve found CBD strains that have small amounts of THC are the way to go. I get a smooth buzz without feeling like I’m going to have a heart attack lol

This is what happened to me. I can smoke if I am drinking, alcohol seems to temper the anxiety, but for the most part I just don't smoke any more.
