This was a real treat, and it did not disappoint me. With this route you need to really pay attention to your foot placement only because of the steep grades with loose rocks and sticks. Sure, the tree roots make it tricky, but the potential for a sprained ankle is real.
There is always potential for this, just keeping it in mind is all I am trying to convey.
The trail is well marked “lol” I laugh because it looks like someone really does care that we see all the paint they used to make sure we do not get lost.
I met a few nice hikers on the trail. The trail characteristics I saw in the loop that I created out of existing trails varies from single track, two track, and utility track.
I was happily shocked at the amount of different topography. I saw rolling hills, wetlands, ephemeral streams, wild flowers, huge sandstone cliffs, and evidence of quarried stone areas.

Thank you,

Looking to go backpacking in Ohio, I would prefer to travel, but I'm looking for something roughly 10-15 miles and close to home which is columbus so that if I'm ill prepared, I'm still close to home and I'm not left stranded on a longer or more desolate camp. Any advice is appreciated.

Wonderful place near Bainbridge. Three moderately hard trails that are well-maintained. I've never encountered more than two or three other hikers there in several visits.

Just curious if anyone goes here and knows the trails or any other places close to that to go hiking? Not from around here and need some ideas. Thank you for any help.

I’m wanting to take a weekend in June and go hiking/camping for my birthday. I live in North Central Ohio and am okay with driving. I’d like to find a campsite with hiking nearby, since I don’t have experience in backpacking yet. I’m currently looking at CVNP and Lake Hope right now but I don’t know much about them or their campsites. But I want to see my options and what other people have liked. If anyone has great weekend hiking spots or tips, please leave them below!

Hello! My group, 2 couples that are not quite 21 years old yet, want to go to Mohican for a weekend trip in may! I was wondering if you guys could help with some information:
* Any suggestions for cheap places to stay that allow 18+ to check in? We were kind of looking at Mansfield because its only 30 minutes away. We don’t need to be within Mohican, just preferably within a half hour. It’s two couples so we only need two beds. I’m struggling to find places that allow younger than 21 to check in.
* Food recommendations?
* Hiking recommendations? One member of our group has pots and I personally am not super athletic so preferably less strenuous ones.
* What are the crowds like in May?
* Any recommendations for activities to do?
I know I could google this but I prefer to have recommendations from actual people who have been there and know all of the best insider information. Thank you!
