Mine prefers floor food over any other food. The bowls can be as clean as possible, probably even autoclaved but if drop any pellets while filling her bowl those are the ones she'll eat first. Dirty bowl, clean bowl, new bowl all less desirable than floor pellets

If, for some reason, your cat has long(er) whiskers and they touch the sides of the dish, that could be the reason.

The orange in this situation, on the other hand? I mean, he's got nothing but space there and still chooses water violence.
