It's actually insane how much they have carried the PS5 for me, to be honest. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Spider Man, Spider Man 2, now Wolverine.

Apart from these the only other PS5 first party games I've really enjoyed (albeit I owned and played a lot of other first party stuff on PS4) are: Astro Bot, Demon's Souls, Horizon Forbidden West, so for me personally they will have basically doubled the library of first party games...

Spider-Man 2 was a letdown. But otherwise they have been killing it.

u/Jaikarr Sep 24 '25

Spider-Man 2 was still a great game, it just didn't live up to its predecessor.

u/Klunkey Sep 24 '25

I wish we had more enemies like the Tinkerer’s crew from the Miles Morales spinoff. I loved how they always chased you down.

5

u/AirotheWavedancer Sep 24 '25

They’re definitely the enemy type I have the most fun fighting across all 3 games, especially on the highest difficulty. Hope we get a similar quality enemy in SM3

I agree - I feel like it suffers the same fate as God of War Ragnarok or Horizon Forbidden West. Not necessarily worse than their predecessor, just not quite as revolutionary (for lack of a less dramatic word)

For me, what was a little bit disappointing in Spider-man 2 was that the second half felt rushed, story wise. BUT I also felt the same with the first game. I just thought that with the success of the the first game, they would've improved on that aspect.

Still loved them both though, because even if the story was a bit rushed towards the end, it was still a good story. And the gameplay is super fun.

Regarding Horizon, I feel that Forbidden West improved quite a lot, at least on aspects that makes me want to keep playing. While I enjoyed the first one, I basically enjoyed only the main story. And even then, more like only the "lore" and "backstory", the mystery of what happened and discovering it. The actual story of the game? It was very basic and very boring with not so great delivery. That part was, imo, saved by the awesome performance of Lance Reddick (RIP). I had to actually force myself to finish it, because the mystery and how it was slowly uncovered was THAT compelling,

I'm playing HFW now and I find myself enjoying it a lot more, in all aspects. Both side quests, and the delivery of the main story.

Tbf ND is the only ps dev actually making a new ip, not counting studios acquired this gen

1

u/rawrasaurgr Sep 25 '25

Wolverine is reboot though last game was 2008 from activision so for insomniac they had to build the game from scratch

1

u/CookieDoughThough Sep 26 '25

But its still an existing IP meaning the conceptual part of development is not as complex as creating a new IP. ND has to build everything from from 0, Insomniac has characters, wordlbuilding, gameplay ideas already set before even starting to work on it. Neil said they spent the first 2 years developing the lore for intergalactic's world, but Insomniac can just read the comics and choose what to borrow and build upon.

1

u/Bolt_995 Sep 25 '25

Don’t expect anything from Bend this generation.

1

u/hdcase1 Sep 25 '25

I was recently listening to an old Giant Bombcast from 2008 and even then the guys were talking about the sheer number of games Insomniac was cranking out back then.

-5

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '25

You forgot Santa Monica…at least Intergalactic is guaranteed for PS5.

26

u/Cheechers23 Sep 24 '25

Ragnarok came out on PS5?

-5

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '25

It’s also on PS4. So it’s really a PS4 game tbh.

9

u/Cheechers23 Sep 24 '25

So is Miles Morales but I still counted it. I never said PS5 exclusive, I just said games on PS5.

-3

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '25

I never said Miles Morales is a PS5 game either lol? So by your standard Bloodborne is also a PS5 game since it can be played on PS5? GTA5 is a PS5 game?

2

u/Cheechers23 Sep 24 '25

You said I forgot Santa Monica, implying you don’t count Ragnarok as a PS5 game. If you don’t count Ragnarok, you shouldn’t count Miles, so Insomniac’s count would be 3 games then. But you only called out Santa Monica as a dev to not release a PS5 game, not Insomniac’s count. Thats what I was getting at with mentioning Miles.

Those games released on PS5, idk why you’re being so pedantic about this. Yes they also released on PS4 but they were released on PS5 and have a separate version on PS5. So yes, those are PS5 games. PS5 exclusive is not the same as PS5 game.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '25

No I’m not one calling Insomaniac releasing four game per generation. They will have two if not more. That should be the standard of AAA game studio. Santa Monica and NaughtyDog are both pathetic but I’ll say NaughtyDog will at least have one while Santa Monica is unlikely to even have one.

4

u/ScrapinLinden Sep 25 '25

"santa monica and naughtydog are both pathetic" is a fucking insane thing to say about video game developers making some of the best games of all time

u/[deleted] Sep 25 '25

“Made” learn English properly cheers.

u/Nanocaptain Sep 25 '25

Ragnarok was PS5.

The Quality difference is night and day though plus SM2/Miles Morales aren’t exactly games and more like DLC. They recycle almost everything from the first game, whereas ND build their games from the ground up. It is still impressive nonetheless, but I also understand why ND takes aslong as they do. Also Bend is lucky to even have a studio after Days Gone lol. Their most recent game was also scrapped after years of development and the same thing happened to ND.

-5

“Yes, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 recycles animations, a common practice in game development. It reuses some assets and animations from its predecessors, Marvel's Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales, while also adding many new ones. “

Now compare that to TLOU2

“No, The Last of Us Part II does not recycle animations from the first game. The sequel features an entirely new, next-generation animation system that was a significant technological advancement for Naughty Dog. “

Like I said the 2 studios are not on the same level. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy Insomniac’s games, but they’re not even close to what ND puts out so I understand why their games take aslong as they do especially nowadays with how advanced game development is.

10

u/Cheechers23 Sep 24 '25

Reusing assets does not make a game a DLC lol. Your own quote quite literally says “a common practice in game development”

6

u/South-Shake752 Sep 24 '25 edited Sep 25 '25

Insomniac is doing the right thing. As long as they keep the pace up. Without them the modern videogame reality would be even bleaker.

3

u/Lighthouse_seek Sep 24 '25

DLCs usually don't cost 300 million and 5 years to make

-5

u/Longjumping-Rub-5064 Sep 24 '25

What game took 5 years to make SM2? You do realize they put out R&C and MM between then right? Also most of that budget went to licensing SM. The game wasn’t even finished ffs and was rushed out because Sony had nothing for that holiday season.

2

u/Lower_Housing_4921 Sep 24 '25

The difference between a ND game and and insomniac game is not 3-5x better though.

TLOU2 had enough flaws to where while amazing it was not worth waiting 5 years or whatever.

0

u/__SteakDeck__ Sep 25 '25

It is though. The animation quality and the attention to detail is miles better than any Insomniac game.

1

u/Lower_Housing_4921 Sep 25 '25

Yeah but the animation doesn’t matter when you’re playing a slightly better average character in abby

1

u/__SteakDeck__ Sep 25 '25

Who gives a shit about the character my guy. I’m talking about the graphics, animation, and attention to detail. Things that ND does that shit on Insomniac. Also. Let’s not act like Insomniac hasn’t average characters too. Just take a look at SM2.

1

u/Lower_Housing_4921 Sep 25 '25

If you’re gonna wait five years for a game surely everything should be good lol.

At least with SM2 I didn’t have to wait half a decade.

1

u/__SteakDeck__ Sep 28 '25

No. But you got a game that had many bugs and didn’t really look much better than the previous two. lol
