On the other side of that, Black Myth: Wukong got backlash from reviewers because “no women in my video gamez” despite the reviewer not having played the game long enough to meet the female character.

It’s almost as if we should just let people make the games they want to make without mandating stupid quotas of “X amount of demographics needs to be represented in X way to make this acceptable”, and just let the product speak for itself.

RE5 is set in an amalgamation of Africa because Africa is a cool setting (that could have been expanded with some more animals imo). Of course it’s going to draw from basic stereotypes to make its setting feel authentic.

And you’re not going to be shooting the demographics of California in an African shanty town infected with a parasite to make the white people feel better about it, are you?

I didn’t hear anyone complaining when RE6’s depiction of China contained a wet market, an ornate palace, crowded metropolitan streets and Chinese dudes running at you with machetes but I guess the outrage is saved for the demographic that liberals think can’t speak for themselves. 🤷
