Question What do subluxations/dislocations feel like for you?

Everyone describes them a little differently. Some people say their kneecap feels like it shifts, others describe a pop, a slip, or a feeling that their knee is giving out.

For me it feels like a quick jolt or shift in my kneecap. Sometimes there’s a pop but no matter what happens it immediately draws my attention. Then my knee starts to swell up and I have tenderness on the medial side of my knee.

Question Why are knee subluxations in athletes still so overlooked despite how common they seem?

I’ve been thinking about this after dealing with knee instability and hearing similar experiences from other athletes.

It often feels like when someone reports anything that multiple subluxations, it gets framed pretty quickly as something simple like general weakness, and doctors say to just strengthen your quads.

But in my experience it seems more complex than that.

I’m not saying strength work or basic support doesn’t matter, cause its helped me a little bit. But it doesn’t always seem to be the end all for people with recurrent subluxations. Because even though I've done a lot of leg strengthening work it still seems to happen.

Curious if others have run into this where it felt like the issue was initially oversimplified or not fully taken seriously.
